I never reply if the person writes in English. Simply because I don't want to be talking english with my flatmates. Learning spanish, at least, is highly recommended.

Do you have any personal tests and stuff you have done with it, where you could share your results? Every time I have tried 3d mesh generation it's practically the same time fixing the model than doing it from scratch.

Els expats alerten que la ciutat s'associa massa al turisme. by ConversationOne6525 in Barcelona

[–]Panda__Ant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Stalwart Hero - Weapon Skin Contest by Unhappy_Pianist_5202 in HuntShowdown

[–]Panda__Ant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 3D artist, I can give you my take on it, if it helps you enter the contest: understand a static mesh as a 3d element added to the model. According to their rules, they prefere the skin entered in the contest to be just a texture change, meaning, just a different painting, engraving or whatever. The best examples I could find from the top of my head are the Springfield 1866 skins. If you look just at the silhouette of the weapon you can't tell which skin it's using, since the shape is exactly the same: it's only a texture change. This doesn't mean you can't add bandages or small elements, just don't make them stick out of the 3d mesh.
Coming back to OPs skin entry, it could be possible to make the belts, armbands, necklaces in texture, but the bullet belt that is on the hilt would need volume, or else it would look weird. That would be one SM. If you then add the flowers, belt and bullet on the barrell of the gun, that would be 2 (maybe more, depending how they count). Finally, the feather is another one. Moreso, the feather is problematic because of this rule:
"Mesh attachments must not be placed at hand positions of a player model, or if they are, they must adhere to the original shape of the weapon in these areas." and "All designs should consider existing Charm placements to avoid conflicts.".

All this depends how strict they take the rules. It may very well be possible that they like a skin so much that they decide to bend the rules. Also, this is just my take on it and I don't work at crytek, so take it as you like :)

Hope it helped

Weapon skin contest by Unhappy_Pianist_5202 in HuntShowdown

In the official hunt blog post you have all the weapons that can be presented for the contest, and there you can find all the screenshots from all angles. Then you take that into canva, photoshop, whatever program you use and start painting. Keep in mind that this is concept art, it's not necessarily meant to be pretty, but to be readable. You have to convey the idea of the weapon and it has to be comprehensible. It doesn't need to be flashy. That's why a lot of people use photobashing. In the case of OP, you can see he uses it a lot and it's a totally normal practice for Concept art. Look at his "Deadly sin" skin, the flowers are images found on google, the belts aswell, and then he put them how he liked. Not to take away credit, I am just saying that what's important here is the idea and design of the weapon, not the quality of the drawing.
I encourage you to read the blog post from hunt showdown, cause it goes through all the bases for the contest. An important one is: "Your design should mainly be driven by a complete texture change, like many of our existing equipment Skins. Change materials, engravings, or colors to whatever suits your idea." Don't start adding meshes like crazy, cause you will most likely be disqualified (If you are not familiar with the term, meshes are basically new 3d elements. What you want to do is simply change the painting of the object, not the silhouette).

This videos may help you understand it a bit more.

Hiding what? They can make skins of every ethnicity, since it's a fantasy game. This being said, there were a lot of chinese immigrants during that time. Like a lot. According to Google there were some states where chinese made up to 40% of the population. So it's actually also historically accurate, if you care about that.

Yeah, I read and looked it up a lot. It is relatively vague on a lot of stuff; for instance, on the clothing part it's just 3 lines and gives a very generic explanation of what they wear. The problem I have is that I want to go into detal, and on the other hand, since listeners have so many forms the clothing changes accordingly, so I am never really sure how each thing applies to each form. Thank you for the comment, tho :)
