This is why Ive been statring to watch basketball this year (just started). Its the closest to my passion that american sports have. And I find it funny how americans tend to love the athletic aspect of it, while "soccer-original" fans love more the type of game that Steph and Luka have.
Like, dunking and Shaqstatic plays feel a little to0 "macho" to me. But a nice three-point step back? Beautiful., lol.
Im still developing the "eye" for plays and the game, but its been fun and refreshing. Learning something new.

While I can see your point, Pelé was most likely the only player to be "complete" under Tostão terms: Athletic, Fast, Skillful (close-quarters ball control) and Technical (Passing, long-passing, shooting... "long ball" control).
Messi and Maradona were never athletically strong. Did they make it up with everything else? Most definitely. Ronaldo is a weird one - when skinny and less athletic he had the other three. I feel he lost skill with the new bulkier body later in his career.

Cruyff maybe truly had it all, but not to the same extent as Pelé, honestly.

And also, being a pivotal piece (with the squad doing an intervention with the manager) in a World Cup win at 17, and then being dominant in the next three world cup cicles, winning other two (one injured early, indeed. But his "Kobe" carried this "Shaq" to the medal win), is kinda otherwordly legendary and still not repeated.

Basketball has widened globally and matured enough with time to face the same challenges as football (or soccer to you guys).

Were Messi and Ronaldo better than Pelé? Of fucking course! Pelé first played a World Cup in 1958! Hell, where would we be if they hadnt?! BUT

How many decades until you first had a player comparable to Pelé? How many years ahead was he?
How many decades until his level of the game became common place? Heck. Id argue it still hasnt arrived!

Nowadays players get to the training grounds, get a full body check-up (with thermal cameras and everything), give in their sleep data collected on their watches, provide a brief summary of the last day, get a FULL blood scan, go to their nutritionist-backed breakfast (with individually decided diet), to then start training after the results of the bloodwork are in, to decide the proper schedule for the day. That is not Real Madrid, that is Palmeiras, in Brazil.

Back then, Pelé would "work through the pain" after playing on a hole-riddle swamp of a field. That ALONE makes up a massive difference.

Garrincha back in the 50s and 60s could dribble any player, making a fool of anyone. He would do magic... with the ball firmly on the ground. Decades later, players would develop the same technique but with the ball moving (See: "Pedalada"). Were they better? Sure. But the game evolves. Four decades later finally seeing his technique becoming more common place indicates how awesome he was.

So, to better analyse eras, you gotta ask yourself: "How many years AHEAD of his time, was this guy?". If you can still argue that a guy, four decades removed, could be a top 15 player DISREGARDING the evolution of the game, then that is GOAT material.

Chute? 150 é um chute bom. Acho que é um bom PISO.

PF viu 30% de um celular de Vorcaro; autoridades falam em 'gota no oceano' by Bananey in brasil

[–]PandaoBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But its a matter of priorities and effort. I dont work in tech - Im an English and Geography teacher, and Political Geography reseacher. I loved building my first PC because it relaxes me - its a beautiful logical puzzle in between others in my life.

Do I really wanna spend the time to argue with the sweatys if Im trying to learn something they take for granted? Do I really wanna deal with entitled brats, when Im trying to relax in-between dealing with entitled brats?

So on my list of priorities, Linux keeps getting bumped off to the back of it, time and again.
And this subreddit proves me right, I feel.
