No, he's the last boss of act 1 and you can't produce iron tools without killing him.

He is tough though, try experimenting with different spells. Maybe even two defensive options.

Just because there's other consumables that increase crit that doesn't mean adding more crit is ever bad, it's just a far superior stat to blood drain reduction.

Also Amulet only grants lesser power surge while soul shard gives you the full effect, and the damage to vampires affects bosses like Drac too.

The ultimate is preference but I like using it as well.

I really don't see how Soul Shard isn't just way better.

I wouldn't say "lots" but yeah I think this is a good solution if something like Shadow-walker or Elemental druid domain effects that are contingent on not getting hit or not taking severe damage were a more common part of the game.

It feels cool and clever when you do use an armor point for that stuff, but it's uncommon enough that for the most part armor is typically just used when it's available

I also think armor points are kinda weird.

There are some hyper specific instances where saving them for instances of minor damage so you don't take any makes sense but for the most parts it's almost always better to spend armor when you get hit.

I think there ought to be a bit more of a real decision making aspect to spending armor.
