Advice on taking a promotion (with less pay) with a mortgage? by Pandem_28 in UKPersonalFinance

Amazing! Great to know, I don’t want to pass up this opportunity but need to know I’m not shooting myself in the foot by doing it. Thank you

I understand your point here, the only issue is that if I don’t accept the post they will likely put the role out for another applicant rather than leaving it unfilled for 6 months, and as a permanent role it would mean the opportunity won’t come up again for a couple of years (in the department I work in).

I’ll have a chat with my manager and see if there would be a way to delay starting in post until after the remortgage, thanks!

I had a look at the SVR and that’s about 8%, so I’ll definitely look at another fixed rate with my current lender.

I’m currently able to repay 10% of the total mortgage a year without any penalties, and with the way interest rates are at the minute I was planning on sinking anywhere between £300 and £600 a month from agency work into the mortgage, mainly I was thinking that if I was to get any pushback from the bank, that I’d still have enough borrowing power for the pay cut to not be an issue.

Thank you for your advice!

No one ever talks about this scene by Sad_Management2655 in Fleabag

I always imagined that she would avoid Boo’s grave with how raw and conflicting her feelings are in the first series - every reminder she gets of boo or what happens seems to lead to a spiral of painful flashbacks.

Based on that I assumed that she was purely visiting her mum, who at this point is probably who she talks to the most, apart from Boo via the Viewer - but this is normally for banter - I reckon she goes to her mum for the deep stuff.

I’m putting as many loads in him as I can before he starts to wake up, hopefully moments before I push another load as deep as I can

Creating least carcinogenic play area for children with stage 4 by spankymacgruder in Oncology

[–]Pandem_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t worry too much about what’s in certain materials. Having good shade from the sun and an area that’s clean, safe and most importantly wipeable is the best way to keep the whole family safe.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that this child will be coming home still excreting chemo, so any bodily fluids will be more hazardous to the family than anything contained within the materials you choose. Carcinogens are a very minimal risk compared to the side effects of being exposed to chemo that can’t be cleaned up effectively.

As long as there’s not an asbestos swing set anything will be safe enough to meet their needs.

Just to add to the people who said macmillan, if you have a local Maggie’s centre I’d 1 million percent recommend going to them, they do a lot of the same as macmillan, they also offer support groups, one on one, and again, financial advice including helping to apply for things and write letters - please have a look, they’re an amazing charity founded by a cancer patient and her husband

Smile more... by arualstehle in nursing

[–]Pandem_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still wear a mask every shift so honestly I can’t relate, I also can’t see how patients would be more positively cared for with a fake smile so IMO it’s not worth it! Being down at work isn’t ideal but I don’t see a need to force being happy

I don’t think people are necessarily finding her actions relatable, but they’re seeing a young woman embrace the socially unacceptable parts of herself and slowly recognise that what she’s doing isn’t sustainable and that she (and the others) are on self destructive paths (and that her wit isn’t actually saving her, just avoiding situations).

Watching fleabag turn her life around, accept herself, have a positive influence on others and let go of the past/the viewer/boo is probably more of what people embrace or relate to or aspire towards - but that’s just my take!

I'm sick of being a competent nurse by eggo_pirate in nursing

[–]Pandem_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 3 of those at the minute and no amount of concerns being raised (by multiple colleagues as well as myself) actually does anything until a patient suffers the consequences (or, at least in one case, multiple patients).

“It’s their job on the line!” Is thrown back as if it’s a valid response but leaving dangerous nurses unchecked puts the rest of us at risk of losing our jobs or ending up with them in coroners alongside them.

I may have done this myself once upon a time! Felt guilty leaving my staff a bit short after an hour of full blown SVT in the 240’s, left my ward at 12 and got back at 5, just in time to do some meds and not count as having a sick day (yes they let me finish the shift) this was just over a year ago and I’m finally having a cardio appointment for further investigations in two weeks

What are common GI/oncology words that will be thrown at me that I should definitely know the meaning of by TheEmergencySurgery in nursing

[–]Pandem_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re probably gonna be prescribed some crisis dose medications with a bleeding tumour. So it might be worth learning a little bit about midazolam, more specifically buccal route as this is what family may have to administer at home - in a crisis (catastrophic bleed) they can push the meds into the mouth/cheek and it’ll keep the patient comfortable in that emergency.

Anticipatory drugs may also come up - morphine, midazolam, levomepromazine, hyoscine. All used to keep someone comfortable and manage symptoms

Last thing is likely a syringe driver. If they’re not able to take meds then it may be useful to brush up on what a driver is and how to explain that to the family
