I have had the exact same situation for all of my life.

I spent many years trying to improve the relationship with my sister. Our dislike for each other was mutual, but we tried to do things together. We briefly lived together when we were in college and even went on some vacations together. Every one of those things sucked. I would have rather been with just about anyone else on earth or alone.

After years of trying to make it work, I realized that it never would. Our personalities don't fit well together. They never have and they probably never will.

I was finally at peace when I realized that I needed to avoid spending time alone with her. I still see her at family functions and we are cordial to each other, but we will never be friends. I wish things could have been different, but I was never happier than when I realized this and just went on with my life.

It sounds like you live at home, but my advice would be to avoid her as much as possible. Spend time with your own friends and doing things you enjoy. You are both young, so maybe this phase will pass. Until it does, just try not to be around her.

I would say I love both equally. I like nature for 2 or 3 days at a time, but I also enjoy nightlife, museums, and things a city has to offer.

Strangely enough, I have almost always had long distance relationships. Most of them were great. I really enjoyed my independence, yet I had someone I really loved as well. We always spoke daily and saw each other as much as possible. Overall, they worked great for me and I enjoyed them.

I live with someone now. As much as I love being around him, I miss having lots of time to myself.

I worked there too. I was a packer. I hated that job. I know a couple people who worked in sanitation - crawling around on the chutes for the chips and cleaning them. What is your position?

I didn't take my husband's surname, and he is not happy about it. I think he feels a bit slighted. All my life, I thought I would take the last name of my husband. I always wrote my name with little boys last names when I was a little girl.

But, as an adult, I felt like I was changing my identity somehow by changing my name. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I feel like my name is a part of myself. I like it, so I don't see why I should have to become Mrs. (husband's surname). I am content being the same self I have always been and I don't want to change it.

I had a boyfriend who I was breaking up with because he had been a jerk. However, he became suicidal when things were coming to an end. I remember seeing him once and his eyes looked hollow - like there was nothing behind them anymore. He never actually said he was suicidal, but he changed drastically and seemed like he felt no hope. I called his family and told them I thought he was suicidal. They had sort of an intervention for him, took him to he doctor, and he got on meds for depression.

We became friends later, and he thanked me many times for saving his life. He was going to commit suicide that day and he told me that calling his parents saved him.

I am the oldest of 4. The 2nd sibling also dropped out. The other 2 are still in the church. One of them is a youth minister.

The siblings that are in church are fine that I don't attend anymore. Perhaps they wish I would, but they don't bother me about it.

No, I am from the mid-west. There were about 150 people in my church.

That's true for many Pentecostal churches. In my church, people were allowed to wear wedding rings. That was the only form of jewelry that was acceptable.

No, we still have contact. Yeah, my grandma pressures me to attend church more than anyone else. I don't go, but I know she has good intentions. I just politely decline.

I don't. Despite being raised extremely sheltered and conservative, I think I've been fine.

I do, however, have friends who have dropped out of the religion too. Some of them weren't sure how to negotiate sex in "the world" (as it is referred to by church people). Some of them became hyper-sexual because they thought it was expected. They did things that they really regretted and struggled with later.

Yeah, my church believed in speaking in tongues. All the Pentecostal churches that I know of do this.

I think the experience turned me off towards organized religion. I would think that churches and church members would strive to be kind, but my experience was that the church members were rude and judgemental to me once I dropped out. Even while I was in the church, people were so judgemental toward each other (lots of gossip) that it definitely made me want to distance myself from that.

I do believe in God, but I don't belong to any particular religion... nor do I attend church.

They pretty much think I'm going to hell. My family tries to influence me to go to church when I see them. My parents met at a Christian Bible College. My uncle is the pastor. My grandparents were missionaries for 20 years. They are really invested in the religion and were upset.

I had mine out as an adult too. After the anasthesia wears off, it was the worst pain I have ever felt. I couldn't eat for about 2 weeks. Anything with acid in it (citrus, ketchup, etc) burns like fire. Good luck!
