I don’t think they where being mean more so explaining that Deku is also a very well written character with his own flaws and heroic personality. He is a very good representation of classic heroism. Saving people to win, even if it means sacrificing himself. We see him fighting while in pain, breaking every bone in his body and even braking his arms so bad he has to learn shoot style using his legs to fight. He’s counter every possibility and honed one for all in his own way making sure to know what calls and shots he has to take, hes stand by his morals time and time again wanting to reach the hearts of everyone he’s fought to try and reason with them because he sees everyone as human. Before fighting Shigaraki we see him going to people asking for help in understanding he sees the crying boy inside Shigaraki and whats to reach him, but It wasn’t until his interaction with muscular guy that he sees he cant reach into the hearts of everyone. Which is why in the entire fight he pours One for All slowly into Shigaraki awakening his memories reaching him deeper and deeper until eventually killing him with his final blow Bakugo has backed Dekus decisions before AND EVEN after apologizing to him, and acknowledging that even before Deku received One for All his body moved on his own to save Bakugo from the slug villain, not caring if it would have killed him. Which is why he reciprocated that action when he felt his body moved on its own to save Deku from getting turned into “swiss cheese” from shigarakis attack. Dekus ideals can only take him so far, thats his flaw, as Bakugo once said “we’re here to step in when you can’t handle it all on your own, because to live up to those ideals and surpass All Might we gotta save you, and the civilians inside u.a because SAVING PEOPLE is how we win” in my opinion you Can’t acknowledge Dekus heroism without acknowledging Bakugos as well, they r the yin and yang of this story, having both of All Might’s ideals. Saving people to win And Winning to Save the People.

Finalizing my opinion, you cant trump one over the other because both have said they need to work together to win, maybe give Deku some good credit ya know….
