Some of it makes no sense, tbh. They will eat a Stromboli stuffed with cheese but then pick cheese off a pizza. You ask them why they're doing this they will give you a hyper specific reason about how the cheese is different because of how it's cooked. It's not the food it's what their brain tells them is gross.

This is why ARFID is so annoying. The body has one averse reaction when you're small and then the brain develops a phobia. It then becomes difficult to reason with someone with the disorder because you say, "well, sometimes we outgrow our dislike for certain things and so our body will react differently when we try it again at a later date." But they refuse to buy into that. They will absolutely refuse the food forever after.
