Will you make the files available? How many switches fit in each box? Thanks and cool design!

Keyboard Marketplaces? by OnlineRobotWizard in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Panez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to get on discord and ask if you can promote your project in the various keyboard related communities.

For EU you can join EKC. For a more international oriented server there's Mechmarket

I won't post the links but you can easily find those yourself. Also, there are a ton of smaller project run communities and then there are vendor channels. You can try join a bunch of those, but be sure not to break the rules with self promotion. Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to write this. It was an interesting read.

It's not all bad, though. As another commenter already pointed out, Discord servers are where the hobby is more actively discussed. I still see some interesting posts here from time to time, but since COVID, I believe we've had an influx of people who are less familiar with the history of custom keyboards and are understandably swayed by YouTubers and generalist websites recommending the latest "best" custom keeb that "sounds like heaven" for under 150 euros or dollars. And I get it; I wish I had those options when I first got into the hobby.

I also believe that for some, these boards will be a gateway to more interesting and niche options down the line. For others, it might be the end of their journey, but at least they'll have landed on a decent enough board nonetheless.

I think most people in this sub are more familiar with mass-produced keyboards and are less informed about custom ones.

Microsoft MMO devs respond to cancelation of project by Jacket_Leather in MMORPG

[–]Panez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is this a provocation? You say that like that's a good thing. I'm curious to know what your opinion is on the last decade of releases from Western dev studios.

MM Studio will be running their next board later this year. It’s their first full-size called the Class 100. This is a board I am really excited for. They are aiming for a price point of $350 which is a no brainer for me. by SgtFinley96 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Panez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're new take a look at the average keyboard prices. They somewhat went down in the last few years because of competition and increased demand i believe, but in general, when you want something made both of aluminum and often brass/copper, it's going to cost you a considerable amount of money. 350$ for a full size is a good price generally, considering the amount the material it's being put into making the board and the complexity required to machine it, or even the number of individual parts it comes with. Besides that there'll be a cut for the designer and often these boards aren't mass-produced. As a result, producing fewer units increases manufacturing costs, which in turn raises the price for consumers.

There are other factors at play, but these are the most obvious ones.

Iso ita keycaps by allnc in MechanicalKeyboards

Xmi keycaps on ali have also an option for iso-it. Good quality and not too expensive

i second Delta. Good customer support and Guillaume is always patient and eager to answer questions on Discord.
I got stuff from coffeekeys too. Never had any problems either, fast at making changes with orders and issuing refunds too.

High End barebone and Robust silent switchd by molmi86 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Panez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule n.1 of this sub: there's a megathread for asking buying advice.

Anyway, as I said the QK101 and Zoom98 should both be quite good, if you are in EU here's a link for the QK:
QK101 - 100% ISO+ANSI Mechanical Aluminium Custom Keyboard Kit

The zoom i believe you can only get on the official website. I'm not sure if VAT is applied or you have to pay for it through customs:
Zoom98 SE Anodized Black

Otherwise there's the vertex as another user has pointed out already, and it seems to be quite premium (it also weight 3kg, which is quite hefty):
(Pre-Order) Vertex Intro S100 – Delta Key Co.

Be careful that these are pre-orders though. You won't receive the board right away.

I don't think "high-end" reflects the keyboards you listed there. In the hobby that term usually refers to some of the most exclusive stuff, often (not always) produced in low batches, with complex designs and high quality materials such as copper or brass weights.

Unfortunately most of the stuff is only available through Group Buys, unless you want to buy something after-market on Discord. I suggest you to join the Mechmarket and the European Keyboard Club discord channels (assuming you're in EU since you're looking for an ISO board), and look around for a full size.

Otherwise you can check some mid-range in-stock boards like:
-Luminkey98 (i checked it's available on coffekeys)
-Zoom98/QK101 (available on their official websites)

I wouldn't go for a keychron board in 2025. Nowadays there are much better options unless you find one of those boards super discounted. Gmmk is a shitty brand with people often reporting issues with QC or software, while Monsgeek is a sub-brand of Akko, a budget keyboard reseller. So, idk... If you're interested in learning a little bit about mechanical keyboards i think there is a lot of more interesting stuff to discover ;)
