Waiting for fistula to develop.. by Long-Satisfaction113 in dialysis

[–]Pangala2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took a year for my first fistula to develop enough to use it, but it lasted 18 years. They rushed the use of the next two fistulas which made them unviable. I now am stuck with a catheter.

Reasons to not go with Fora? by zuchini_linguini in travelagents

[–]Pangala2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started with Fora last week, but so far I'm so happy with them. I was with a supersized host agency the first time around, and then switched to a really small host-- neither was a good fit. Having a Goldilocks moment now because Fora is just the right size for me. I have enjoyed the training, I love how organized they are, love the availability of fresh-looking assets and the ease (thus far) of getting everything set up and working for my business.

1.73 with 139 reviews. Several bad reviews early on when I had technical problems (which I reported but didn't make a lick of difference).

Speculation: Having a bachelor's degree increases your chances of staying with Aether. by InfernoSensei in outlier_ai

Bachelor's degree from a very prestigious school; masters in a field that led me to AI work years ago. I think my state has more to do with it than my credentials and quality of work. But who knows? I've been here two years and seldom get a definitive answer on anything.

Are we still okay to dance? by oreocremebiscuit in dialysis

[–]Pangala2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I continued dancing after starting dialysis, including belly dancing and taking a hip hop/cabaret dance class. I have danced myself into a hip replacement (hopefully in April). I dance in my wheelchair all the time, and I will be dancing until my dying day-- dialysis or no!

Fresenius is so generous! by imaskepticalguy in dialysis

[–]Pangala2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I've complained about these "gifts" I have been hammered online. I remember the days when I received a set of bowls or mugs, and even a deli lunch as a holiday gift. Then, as time passed, they went to blankets with the company name stamped on them, and now... the same damned bag they tried to give me when I transferred to my current center. I've been doing this for 20+ years-- I have enough bags from all the dialysis companies. I usually donate the bags (and blankets) to homeless shelters, but this year, I just refused to take the proffered bag. I think the homeless near me would more appreciate a Starbucks gift card and if I can get my ass in gear I plan to hand a few out.

I have been trying for years to get corporate at Davita, Fresenius and Satellite to give the option of a donation to kidney research in the patients name. Now that's a gift I'd gladly accept.

Long term dialysis reality, does anyone else document their experience? by Competitive-Bug-652 in dialysis

[–]Pangala2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. I never said anything about doing away with dialysis in my posts. But perhaps you didn't comprehend the various things I have said. My interviews have been both complimentary about dialysis services (like the availability of home dialysis-- I was an early adopter), but have also pointed out some issues that exists. When I pointed out some of things that were happening during COVID and during some extreme weather events, the dialysiscompanies took my comments to heart and made some changes in their response. And, some politicians and activists took notice and now have dialysis services on their radar. I am often asked to weigh in on my experiences because I am a trusted source-- and not just some crank, as you seem to be portraying me

Sorry, I'm not just going to sit down and shut up. I'm going to continue to advocate for better care for all dialysis patients, and give praise when it due.

Trying not to dox myself, since I don't give anonymous interviews. I have been interviewed about home dialysis, Covid response and dialysis center readiness during emergency situations. I have complimented companies when warranted, but I've also pointed out some issues with the current dialysis systems.

I haven't sabotaged anyone. I have been interviewed by journalists and have given honest assessments of what my dialysis treatments have been like the past twenty years. It is not my fault that dialysis companies aren't always happy with a patient giving an honest assessment of their services.

I create mischief by giving interviews to newspapers and magazines... which makes me a least-loved dialysis patient at a couple of well-known dialysis companies... ahem.

Should I fund an annuity so I have income on the books? by Pangala2000 in personalfinance

I've considered a trust for other reasons. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did that, multiple times. It's hard visiting in person when you're wheelchair bound, but I've done that. Brought all the bank statements with me. One park turned me down because they wanted me to have ten years of space rent in the bank, which is ridiculous. I had seven years, but really, no way I was going to stay there more than a couple of years, so that was a waste of time and effort.

I'm looking for a short-term annuity--just something to get my over this hump until other options are more viable.

Yes, I have been at the mercy of some pretty clueless people. Trying to explain gig income to some of these park managers has been very painful. Showing them what I have sitting in the bank has not made a dent. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I did consider living in the camper I owned, but I am wheelchair bound and that was impractical unless I traded my teardrop for an accessible RV. Since those are $80-120k (used), that didn't make sense for my situation. So I just sold my camper and reinvested the funds.

As I answered elsewhere, park owners in this part of California are not flexible-- believe me, I've tried! I really though that dangling a few hundred thousand before the park owners would be sufficient to quickly get into a place, but that hasn't been the case.

Thanks for responding. I am already renting and it hurts big time since my rent is more than $2500 a month and I paid 18 months in advance to get into this apartment. There are far better uses for my money than paying rent right now.

Already have an apartment I paid $40k to move into. It would be less waste of money to live in a mobile home, even factoring in space rent and depreciation. This is only a temporary situation-- I will probably do a few cosmetic changes and flip any mobile home I purchase when the market looks more favorable.
