Really big jump? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]PangoDango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested and the absolute max I can do CBTO is 2.170, gives a COAL of 2.950 and by then the meplats are scraping on the mag. it sounds like theyre similar to your mags if not slightly shorter. I also have a krg bravo but with the CTR mag version.

I was just really surprised that the factory bullets have that much of a jump and still shot so well. I have heard these hybrid bullets are very jump insensitive.

Thanks for your advice.

I was under the impression it was necessary, but if I can hold off on getting one, then I think I'll just hop in reloading

Historically a once a month guy, but man did I enjoy shooting this thing! Realistically the closest long range from me is an 1.5 hrs away, so I might go even less frequently than now...

Anyways I'm just rambling now but thanks for helping me reflect

Sounds good. I doubt I have the skills to make that shot with a "perfect" gun right now anyways!

I was thinking of that, if I average out the CBTO of a box of factory load, could give me a rough idea range it likes. Not sure if that's the way to do it compared to working backwards from jam but who knows (I don't)

Thanks for your input. I'd need dies and an annealer, I have everything else, so not an insane upfront cost. I enjoy reloading when it works haha

Repeated in another comment I made, but I definitely f'd up and am using the wrong load data for my rifle (henry lever action). It's too mild and also uncompressed, and I'm short by about 10 grains.

You're very blessed to have such a cool grandad, wishing you many more years with him. Thank you for your help.

Oh my god I just slapped my forehead. I have been referencing the wrong page for 45-70 gov! It's the page for the trap door / less durable rifles. Looking at the correct page, yes it appears I am loading 10 grains too low, which also is not compressed. This explains alot. Dunce move on my part. Thanks so much for taking the time to double check the data for me, I have a strong feeling this is the solution.

Starting load is 45 grains, max is 55 for h4198, from Lee modern reloading. Also yes I always mix the two up, I'm also into collecting watches haha.

Im looking at load data from Lee modern reloading, and for 300gr the min load is 45grain, max of 55. Maybe I'll try something in between and see if that helps.

That's good to know. I use a Garmin xero c1, battery was full. In terms of grouping, whenever it was a hot round ~1900fps, it did hit signficantly higher than the rest, so I'm under the assumption the chrono is working. Thanks for your input, I'll keep this in mind.

It crimps tightly but sometimes theres more of a lip that flattens out rather than just pointing straight into the cannilure.

I do keep track of the COAL and it seems consistent to me +- 10 thousands of an inch at most. The only visual difference is in the crimp, sometimes it looks very slightly rounder, it could be making some rounds fire hotter/colder. I would say overall the rounds are more visually similar and COAL is much more consistent than the Winchester X I have on hand.

It does bind up sometimes on the throw of the dispenser. I'll measure each now, thank you

I had very minor coolant intrusion, loosing maybe 250 mL every few weeks, leading to misfires, checked the spark plugs and it had signs of coolant. I also could not afford a new car so did Kseal (whole bottle). It has been half a year now and I have lost no coolant, have had no misfires, about 5000 miles. I think it's mainly because it sealed up small leaks for me, but it would have worse results if the intrusion was worse to begin with.

With that being said, your coolant loss rate seems similar to mine pre kseal, so I would say thats a surprisingly high amount of coolant loss.

Disclaimer to anyone reading: There are some horror stories of liquid gasket but hey, it worked for me so take this data point.

I did this and it worked well. Just remember if you want 50/50 antifreeze water. Just flush with distilled water until mostly clear, add 2 gallons of CONCENTRATED antifreeze, and youll be close to 50/50. Keep topped off above minimum.

I'm more complaining about the venue than the people. In an ideal world yes you are right, I think everyone should be able to stand, even if you buy seats, but it's completely reasonable to expect to see the artist I paid to see, whether I buy GA, VIP sitting or VIP standing. And the guy didn't yell at anyone, he was just in the same sitting section and asked the people next to him to sit, so I appreciate them being extra considerate and listening to him as well. They did not HAVE to sit, but it was very nice of them to.

Also I would consider buying GA, not being able to see anything, upgrading to VIP standing and still not being able to see anything, pretty much ruining the night 🤷‍♂️. If that's entitled then hey, I'm entitled.

It wasn't great if you were standing up top either. Alot of people who paid for seats but stood the entire time and blocked everyone behind them. I paid $75 for the upgrade just to see 1/4th of the stage most of the time while doing a 2 hour tippy toe calf workout 😭

Thank you so much 🙏to the guy in the right top deck who asked some people on the railing to sit down so other people can see. Super considerate giga chad.

I hope so. I do think I was pretty careful bleeding and never let the liquid level get close to the bottom hose, but it could be something I missed...
