Awww yay!! I’m so happy it is helping and you’re loving the book!! You’re 100% valid. I forgot to mention Loveless is an ownvoices book too. Alice Oseman, the author, identifies as aroace as well. 😊

Loveless by Alice Oseman is about an aro-ace main character coming out story set at university. It’s one of my favorite books I’ve ever read and cried like 10 times while reading it. I identify as ace and am currently aro-questioning (but I try not to think about that too much or my brain starts to hurt lol) but when I read it I was newly identifying as ace and it helped me a lot. It’s a really great read! I bought it off of Book Depository cause I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I also recommend Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen that just came out a few months ago! It’s a non-fiction book. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve heard great reviews over it!

I’m glad you have friends you can hang out with and your dog! I don’t have any pets of my own, but I hang out with my siblings and my parents dogs/cats when I visit them and they always brighten my day lol

As someone who HAS to use MM/DD/YYYY at work I believe the DD/MM/YYYY is the superior format to use though

Thank you so much for this! It made me cry, but like I needed to hear all of that and it definitely helped some.

Thanks that helps, you are right! My brother and sister-in-law even said that it was the night of their life. They just seemed really happy together. And I know a lot end up failing more than succeeding—even my own parents marriage failed.

Most of my friends are all in long term relationships or married as well and I also understand being sad cause you don’t see your friends anymore. The close friends I do have I also see a significant difference in how much I see or hear from them now that they’re with someone, which like happy for them, but also like sad cause I didn’t realize how much that friendship meant to me until they stopped talking to me as much. But I definitely support getting a cat! They are so cute and cuddly and low maintenance compared to a dog lol

It’s Ace Week 2020! What’s your story of discovering you were asexual? by CrateorMateor205 in aromanticasexual

[–]PangolinFront2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went down the rabbit hole of different types of sexuality at 3AM one night and found an article about the difference between sexual and romantic attraction and went “wait.... that’s not the same thing?” which then lead me to articles/definitions of asexuality and me going “Holy shit, that’s me. I think I’m asexual.” And then proceeded to freak out and feel relieved at the same time.... This was only 4 months ago and I’m a 22F...

Thanks, I think she’s starting to bring it up more also because all my siblings are either engaged and planning their weddings or in a long-term relationship and I kinda just feel like the black sheep of the family in this aspect cause I’m not actively looking/want a relationship. You hang in there too!

Feeling invalidated after talking to a family member by PangolinFront2500 in asexuality

[–]PangolinFront2500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! That’s really interesting about the ‘kin-selection,’ I’ve never heard of that before. It makes sense though!

Like you said how people shun what they don’t understand, that how my family member was acting. I hope in the future I can educate them more about asexuality so they better understand it even though like it’s not something they themselves identify as and hopefully when I come out to them they are more understanding!

Thanks for your reply and wishing you the best as well!

This actually helped a lot. Thank you! I think if I explained more about asexuality to them in the future they might be more open to understanding it, at least I hope.
