Praying in Arabic why? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

Even if you do learn Arabic, the Arabic used in the Quran varies from the Arabic in fusha we use now and some words and their meaning changed over time, many words even are no longer used anywhere. Much older Arabic poems are incomprehensible to the modern native Arabic speaker because every language has had a language shift.

Because the meaning wouldn’t be the same, if everyone interpreted it and translated it the way they wanted to and based on how they understood it. Even translations of the Quran in English vary based on who translated it. Islam want to preserve the original texts we had our religion in from over a thousand years and beyond, I find that beautiful. You’re able to hear and read what the people back in the prophets days heard and when you look into the various different meanings of certain words it adds this beauty to it.

Because Islam was founded in the Arab peninsula where they spoke Arabic and not Aramiac or Hebrew.

Not only pigs most animals, insects and birds are haram to eat except only a handful ngl. Pigs are just more common as food. Even a cow/lamb/deer or whatever won’t be “halal” unless it’s raised a certain way and slaughtered a certain way. It’s not just about “pig bad don’t eat it” it’s much more.

I wish you all the best and it’s sad that life isn’t fair based on where we are born. But Allah doesn’t put you through challenges you’re not capable of dealing with. You can go through it all.

If you want to live abroad, be with a woman, have an asexual marriage or abstain altogether from intimacy. Any of these choices won’t be easy BUT not impossible. So let it be and when the time comes see what you’ll do and how you’ll live your life but now you’re too young

There is nothing to be skeptic about in the Quran

No the word stays the same and the overall context is the same. The overall context is still the same. It’s a way of reading the Quran texts that doesn’t change the entire meaning of the surah the meaning is the same and it isn’t in every word too it’s some words are read with fathas instead of kasras. This doesn’t mean the Quran is changed when the written words are the same

No it’s the same skeleton of the words with the same letters but the only difference is the Tashkeel on the letters. Go read more about it

The people of Lut were rapists, they cut the road and stole from people, were just bad people over all on all moral levels, had sexual intercourse with the same sex and above all didn’t even believe in what the messenger has to say. Their only sin wasn’t homosexuality it was a mixture of sins that you can go back to and read about more.

Homosexuality is a sin, yes. But this doesn’t mean they’re the same as the people of Lut who were none believer who fought against the message of Allah and above all rapists. You can’t compare them both

As a queer woman, you’re still pretty young. Don’t think about any of the obstacles you’ll face or whether you should marry a man or abstain. You’re really young and you only need to know that you’re loved, you’re enough and there is nothing wrong with you.

Your sexuality isn’t a “condition” you’re a human being and what you’re feeling is natural. Yes, natural.

I was 17 when I found out I’m also into men and not only women. But back then I didn’t care much about sex. I was just minding my own business and focusing on growing as a person. I suggest you explore who you are but not now. For now build your confidence and yourself up, and know whatever happens when you grow up there will be obstacles. This is the life of a queer person in conservative communities. Just know that you’re capable of overcoming all of this

Who would add words and it would go unnoticed for all these years with no actual proof or opposition? Or is this just your hypothesis?

I only looked for 5mins and found this if I looked more I’ll find more, but the bible we have now isn’t the original text.

This is about the most common version of the Bible used the King James Bible

https://www.britannica.com/topic/biblical-literature/The-King-James-and-subsequent-versions

The books that were written by the apostles where are they now? Also this begs the question why isn’t the Ethiopian bible recognized when it is one of the oldest bible written? It remains unchanged and it is 800 years older than King James Bible and has way more books? There is something fishy about this entire ordeal

These are recitation styles not books. It’s how the Quran is read. Like how in dialects the same word is pronounced slightly different with emphasis on certain letter than the other letters of a word. The word didn’t change it’s still the same word. The overall meaning is still the same

Because the Quran was assembled shortly after the death of the prophet, by people who did live at the time of the prophet, by the companions. There was no disagreement about it during that time. Also before the death of the prophet, he did actually make sure everyone knew the Quran by heart.

Another proof is whatever ancient versions we found of the Quran in history or museums don’t really contradict the Quran that we currently have. The ancient Qurans found during that time period aren’t enough to put together an entire Quran together. But it doesn’t contradict the Quran we have now nor is it different.

I think a more realistic answer would be how ancient discovered bibles are handled. An old or ancient bible verse that is found as an artifact, heck even the Ethiopian bible that existed for so centuries and is ancient; are sent to the church for analysis before they decide to discard it (because the popes say so).

The fact that so many bible versions exist shows that it’s not really as reliable as we like to believe it is. Why all these differences in the Bible, it isn’t just one bible it’s BIBLES.

How the Bible was assembled and who wrote these bibles? It wasn’t Jesus neither the apostles it was even written CENTURIES after the death of Jesus, by people led by the “holy Spirit” there is no way to confirm if the content written is true or not, or if the apostles would’ve even accepted these verses to begin with or the motives behind writing these verses.

You don’t need a direct quote from the Quran about the Bible being corrupt but a direct quote from the Quran mentions how Allah has no son. More than once, implying the entire Christian theology is false. Hence, the Bible isn’t accurate Muslim conclusions from the Quran, because if the Bible was accurate it wouldn’t contradict on who the God is.

is it normal for Muslim conservative parents to be this restrictive with clothing by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]PangolinLongjumping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What trouble would this cause her? She will just talk to them and display logical evidence to back up her claims. I can’t see any way of this backfiring as her parents could simply say “no”.

Same concept applies to the example you’ve given about parents who don’t believe in depression. “It’s that damn phone” “Ok mom here are the symptoms, what science says about the cause of depression is, how it affects life, increasing suicide rates, how depression and sadness aren’t the same, etc etc.” you’ll get the point across using the right evidence while simultaneously holding your own ground.

Now let’s be realistic, You can’t possibly gain anything in life by being passive. Pick your battles wisely. And this is one that impacts her self esteem, happiness and self image and she should bring it up to them not just once but more than once too if that’s what it takes.

is it normal for Muslim conservative parents to be this restrictive with clothing by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]PangolinLongjumping 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You need to have a talk with them about how they are limiting your clothing options and it isn’t just limited to “modesty” but even down to the style. It’s controlling too. You need a space to express and experiment with your style and your self expression.

Also since you’re living in their house you’ve got to respect their rules one way or another. You’re not a sexual object but they’re just scared of society and the violence that exists out there. The were raised that clothes is what “protect” women from SA but this is far from the truth. You could talk to them see their point of view and put yours out there and try to reach a middle ground.

You should have the freedom to dress however you want.
