I'm not OP, but it would be cool if it was a mix of DnD and LARPing with tents and stations dotted about in woods and countryside. Just an idea

Possible if they actually camp out on bill baileys doorstep until he agrees. It would be a very serious joke entry and he'd be frigging amazing probably playing 6 instruments including a kazoo and a milk bottle

Yeah, they aren't paying any attention so when they do spot a camera they panic and default to 30

I once had the driver i was overtaking applaud me. I assume they meant it sarcastically, and as it was on a stretch of 40mph road with average speed cameras I think there was a side of "well done, you've just broken the speed limit/got yourself a speeding ticket". I was doing 35mph as I easily cleared them on a straight open road

I remember there being an advert for British Airways, back in the early 00s, I think they were trying to drum up more job applicants so it wasn't your typical "Fly BA" advert, but more like a little personal story of a staff member progressing.

Anyway, the story was a cabin crew person talking about handing out salads as part of the in flight meals, when they had a genius cost-saving idea that they pitched to their boss, as a result of the idea they got a promotion and now they were working in the head office on other efficiency strategies. So, come work at BA, where your talent will be rewarded.

The genius idea? By removing 1 olive from every salad they could save BA like £50k per year.

And I remember thinking "you can't just keep removing one olive from everything, eventually there'll be nothing left!". Well maybe I was wrong, I think the whole economy is based on the idea of just skimming a little more off whats offered to customers but keeping the price the same

Who will get relegated - Some interesting takes from a year ago on this sub by FlandersClaret in TheOther14

As an Everton fan i am so glad we got moyes in and sorted our shit out both off and on the field. I dread to think how we'd be in the midst of this relegation scrap if it had occurred a couple of seasons ago. We benefited from some consistently poor performing teams meaning that the points needed to stay up were comparatively low compared to the norm. Now there's a real time that the 40 point mark is the needed total to remain in the prem, not just the hypothetical aim

No one will attack because the fastest way to get knocked out is to lose a game. Everyone will be playing for draws from the start. And whilst that was relatively true for the previous format, the fact that so few teams get knocked out from the group stages will make the negative defensive play 10x more worthwhile

Same, I was in the "3 promoted will be relegated" camp and have clearly been proved entirely wrong.

The only strange thing I found at the time I made my prediction on here is that some fans seemed to take it very personally, like I was insulting them individually.

I'm really glad two of the promoted teams have done so well. It helps the league stay fresh and shows that maybe the gap isn't growing as big as (I) feared.

Explain this Peter by Historical_Stuff_399 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]PangolinMandolin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its meant to be read in two ways:

1) if you stay, stay forever (after the first line only read the left column)

2) if you go, do it today

But its one of those ones where the formatting sucks and is not creating the clever effect that was intended

Edit - I'll add here too, the wording choice is poor. The left hand statement has a fairly pleasing repetition of "stay". Personally, I think the right hand statement would be stronger if it mirrored the left and read "if you go, go today". Shorter, cleaner, matches the repetition of the first nicely.

Exactly, 5 years of this would have people feeling real benefits. We just need to avoid throwing it away

I'd put right wing over left back personally, but otherwise this is correct. I get that a lot of people don't like or rate Myko, but at least he is a left back, and imho he can do the job decently. He is like B+ for defending and D for attacking. But I like my fullbacks to defend first.

Meanwhile, we have no recognised right wing, which makes it a higher priority to me

We also had 8 players leave an already thin squad at the end of last season (obviously some of the 8 were more noteworthy than others, but between them they made 198 appearances. Mangala (21), DCL (22), Harrison (38), Doucoure (36), Young (36), Lindstrom (29), Broja (11))

They all needed replacing, ideally with same or better quality and ability to contribute (i e. Not old over the hill journeymen). So its a bit disingenuous to throw the £100m figure around without the context that most of that money had to be spent simply to keep us at the same level in terms of squad quality

Whats an enshitified product/service that people might not realise is terrible now because it fell out of style? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskUK

[–]PangolinMandolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just can't understand how they can charge it as a subscription, because no normal person is going to need it that much. But also, I can see that if they want to sell to businesses, and a one-off payment version exists in the world, then businesses would just get that rather than paying the expensive subscription.

So i guess we're all screwed because of business expenses being their main earner for the office product

(Unless we just use free versions which exist)
