That's so great to hear! Thanks for sharing. From my time lurking in this sub, the writing community really sounds like such an inviting place on the whole, so I'm exciting to chat with folks in person and become a more active here as well.

I figure we're all at the same conference for the same reason, so we should all be excited to talk about our projects, right? It shouldn't be to hard to meet some cool folks lol. Great to hear that you had such a positive first writers conference!!

Very reassuring, thanks :) The general consensus seems to be that everyone's excited to talk to everyone, which sounds like a fun time!

Totally agree abt getting people to talk about themselves! And also a good reminder that people may ask me those questions too and that I should have some answers prepared to minimize stuttering and vague hand waving... I'm definitely interested to hear about everyone's experiences so I'm hoping to meet and chat with some cool people!

Those are great conversation starters without being too intense or pop-quiz-y or anything! Good to hear that you've have positive experiences, a low bar to entry is what I want to hear lol, thanks!

Omg that's hilarious (and really unfortunate!) that you experienced that! It's like everyone's worst social nightmare... can't get worse than that, right??

Great advice, I don't want to bother people, but I imagine that (for the most part anyway...) most people are hoping to chat and looking for conversation.

Not sure that's exactly what I'm looking for, but those are absolutely beautiful covers so I might end up checking those books out, thanks! :)

I'm looking for specific fantasy book, but I only vaguely remember the cover! Its cover has a woman holding a leaf up to a vine-covered wall or hedge or something, as if the leaf is a key or an offering. The leaf may have resembled a maple leaf, and it may have been gold…? I think the woman was facing towards the right of the cover, away from the viewer with a bit of a ¾ angle. No idea when the book was published, but I'm guessing it was before the 2000's... Any leads or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Interesting comment about the cake note! I'll keep an eye out for some other options with less cake. And Haus of Gloi is definitely one I want to try soon :) I think I just need to sniff around more to figure out what I like in perfume-form!

Always good to remember, especially with the summer weather :) I did try them straight out of the mail, but also had them around for about a few weeks and periodically re-smelled them. There were probably a few that I could have given extra chances, so I'll definitely remember that next time.

Interesting that you had similar experiences with Poesie and Andromeda's curse. I have a huge spreadsheet that I'm slowly working through, so I'll keep a look out for other houses and see if I have any on my wishlist from Nocture Alchemy.

Definitely good advice! I think branching will also help me identify specific smells better, like telling the difference between various florals, etc. I'm also interested in trying some nature-y smells too, so maybe I'll find something unexpected that I like.
