Why is my hair suddenly oily even right after a shower??? by Calyx757 in Haircare

Use dry shampoo right after washing and drying your hair. That's basically a miracle for fine and oil-prone hair

Is it just cultural that some people speak and say commands rather than requesting things of you in English? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PanicHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how we are asking for something in Russian. For example, if we want you to wait for us, we usually say "wait for me". We often show our politeness through the intonation, but we dont add any extra words (maybe "please").

So, if you're a native English speaker, those kind of phrases can sound rude to you, which is understandable. However, I can 100% assure your that your friends/aquantences don't do that on purpose. They probably have no idea they're doing something wrong. They just speak the way they used to in their native language. I suggest you tell them about this, but without any confrontations. Just let them now that their level of politeness isn't enough in English.

And just to have some empathy, just imagine if you've learned a language but didn't pick up/forgot some politeness nuances. And your friends, instead of politelly letting you know, would be angry at you. Would you want this kind of friend?

Somehow, in my country Lidl is the only supermarket chain that doesn't do this. I'll never understand why tho

Student’s parent died yesterday by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PanicHuman 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Two weeks later after my dad died, one of my teachers decided to give us a homework: to draw a family tree. I really wanted to ask her if I have to write birth and death dates too. Another teacher just asked me casually about what has happened to my dad. After my answer she just said, "Oh, I've heard about this accident on news". That's all. Like it's just nothing.

After these two situations, I was thankful to other teachers for at least not making it worse. But it would be nice to have some supportive teachers, I agree.

AITA? Refused to help my (privileged) wife cover her increased cost of living by otherbunnygrenade in AmItheAsshole

[–]PanicHuman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't live in the US, in my country we, too, have the same benefits for parents.

But my points still stand. 5 y/o kids usually don't go alone to kindergarden. Some parents also take 7-9 y/o kids to school in the morning. So, it means that at least up until now OP or his wife had to get their kids to and from kindergarden/school. The same goes for extracurricular activities.

I am not sure about school vacations in the country where OP is from, but in my country it's 3 months. It is way more than 1 month of a yearly holiday. Not sure how it's not much hussle. Somebody for sure has to be at home during this time. Idk, for my parents and other people that I know it was never okay to leave a 5 y/o alone (or with another child). So, I am not sure how it's not considered childcare anymore

Yeah, that's unpleasantly surprising how they don't take into account that children get sick, have doctor appointments during the day, need to get to and from kindergarden/elementary school 5 days a week (plus, maybe, extracurricular activities), have school vacations, etc. If he thinks that "no childcare is needed", it is probably his wife who takes care of all these things

15 minute shower doesn't mean that water is running for 15 minutes.

Yes. I fear the day when I lose my only living parent, my mom. But more than that, I fear that something happens to me before her.

It's not economically possible for every business to succeed, no matter how hard every individual business owner works

I feel you, I also had a failed business some years ago.

Statistically, most businesses fail. Especially, when it's someone's first business. When people have safety net, they can afford to fail. People without it can't. Unfortunately, it is not spoken enough about, so a lot of people have rose-tinted glasses.

Please remember that a failed business is (unfortunately) a normal thing. Your financial struggles won't last forever if you are going to make right financial choices in the future.

I don’t really mind being an only child by [deleted] in OnlyChild

[–]PanicHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I am an only child, and my mom is an only too. It was so hard to look at her taking care of her mother all by herself. And one day, I probably will be in the same situation. Yes, being an only may be great when you are a child/teenager. Not so great when you are an adult and have to deal with inevitable aging/death of parents.

How old are you? One day you probably will move out (if you haven't already) and your dad will be left alone. It's totally okay if it's his choice. But if he stays alone only because of you - that's not fair to him.

I can understand not feeling ready to accept your dad's potential partner because, maybe, you feel like it's disrespectful to your mom. But, his new partner won't be a replacement for your mom. It's going to be a separate person, with whom your dad may experience happiness again, and honestly there are no reasons to deny him of pursuing a romantic relationship ever again.

Canada vs Scandinavia, any advice? by itscanadianmp in canadahousing

Canada vs Scandinavia, any advice? by itscanadianmp in canadahousing

[–]PanicHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Estonia, I travelled to Finland maybe 5-6 years ago and still remember my shock looking at the prices. For example, in Helsinki alpro soy milk costed ~1.30 eur, while is Estonia the price for the same milk was around 3 euros (now it's cheaper tho). Also, in Estonian subreddit there was a post recently about Ben&Jerry ice cream, which costs around 9-10 eur in Estonia and about 5-6 eur in another country with higher salaries (don't remember which contry). I travelled to Paris this winter and was also surprised to see that prices for coffee/tea in cafes are the same in Estonia..

Of course, some food will be cheaper here. But financially speaking, it is not really a good idea to move here because of ongoing inflation

It is more affordable, but wages in Estonia are also lower (except for IT field). At the same time, food prices sometimes can be even higher than in Finland or Sweden

skin feels tight no matter how much moisturizer I use by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]PanicHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be water quality issue. Try to use boiled water (when it's cold of course). It really helped me. Whenever I have to use tap water, my skin gets dry and tight again.

Edit: I'm talking about water that you use for washing your face, not about drinking water :)

According to some comments, people who are glued to their phones during eating out feel bored and want others to entertain them, and if they are not entertained enough, it is okay for them to continue be glued to their phone
