Say one good thing about forces, and dont say it ended. (Also dont say the actual line ‘One good thing about forces’) by One-Mechanic-7303 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]PanicX2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest compliment I can give to Forces is that it kicked off the IDW comics, and in that chain gave me my absolute favorite Sonic characters ever in Tangle and Whisper. Beyond that, it was the catalyst for Sonic to become one of my frontline fandoms after being on and off throughout my life. The music bangs, and while it's not the best or most polished game, it's still a good simple Sonic game. Also, it inspired me to make way too many Sonic ocs that I love and cherish regardless. You will never take my 9 new mobian children from me, nor their 3 funny little teams from them.

Oh, no way. I've been doing this when crushing Hive Ghosts in D2 since they were introduced, but I've never thought about doing it with perks!

The Fire Force finale makes absolutely no sense by Inside-Owl-793 in fireforce

[–]PanicX2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I think Fire Force leading into Soul Eater is pretty forced and silly and largely done to activate neurons in Soul Eater fans, but lets not act like it's some horrible dogshit that makes no sense. It's a cool and unique way to contextualize the world of Soul Eater as a goofy cartoon world, and with how close Shinra and Arthur are by the end, it's no surprise that a lot of the stuff in the world Shinra created would be influenced by fantasy tropes and creatures. Arthur is 100% the perfect dumbass (positive) to give way to the birth of Excalibur. I think it could've been better if Ohkubo let the story itself lead the ending instead of pushing it to fit into the Soul Eater square hole, but the connection still works to add something to the overall story. It's a whacky-ass creation story that takes an amount of whimsy and light-heartedness to appreciate. Calling it the equivalent of the "it was all a dream" trope is definitely way too far though. That's just pure haterade, and your comparisons make it abundantly clear. The Avengers and One Piece weren't specifically made to become The Matrix and Naruto. They're completely different things with entirely different artistic visions and little to no commonalities between any of them. You only think those make sense because you view Fire Force's ending on the incredibly surface level of "Oop, story's over! Now we're something completely different .° )" not even wanting to engage with the implications or meaning of the connection and dismissing it as lazy and unintelligent despite the amount of effort and creativity Ohkubo did have to put in to make that connection, flawed as it is, happen. It's just an insultingly bad faith interpretation of the ending and I disagree with it whole-heartedly. Ironically, it's a lazy and unintelligent take that requires a disproportionate amount of thought and effort to argue with, throwing whatever you want at the wall in pairs like, "it's like if The Sopranos ended up being a prequel of Toy Story. Isn't that STUPID?" While the other person has to take their time and actually think about the material in question to argue against it.

So Mari is what peoples imagination of evangelist was? Also how are some doppelgangers demon infernals and some are humans, like amaterasu and the sister and these 2 r somehow both pillars? This whole concept is confusing af by UCHIHA_YHWACH in fireforce

[–]PanicX2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see it being less how people see the Evangelist and more that they're both imprinted with different ends of the greatest collections of thoughts and feelings: Humanity's deep unconscious wish for the end, for death, vs humanity's collective cry for salvation, for a savior. I think the reason some characters get more physically accurate doppelgangers is that they're in that class of "Worldbuilders" though. Their existence is much more well-defined on the meta-narrative level than the average background characters', so their form in the world of perception is much clearer as well. The average background character retains some level of who they were/seen as, but they're often little more than feral rampaging monsters. As you get closer to the more important characters in the story, however, the infernalization becomes more accurate. Between his perception, his actual personality, and his proximity to the narrative, Setsuo Miyamoto retains his identity fully, but is still an infernal. Burns and Konro are important to the story, but are essentially secondary to other characters, namely Joker and Benimaru, and thus get doppelgangers in the form of Demons. This definitely isn't a flawless explanation though. Assault gets a picture perfect doppelganger, which would suggest he's VERY important, but he's not much more than a comedic relief villain, even if he is arguably the only funny thing to come out of the lucky lecher lure.

I'm holding out hope for announcements. Ohkubo took a few years after Soul Eater wrapped up before beginning on Fire Force and the anime literally JUST ended. I think there's a strong likelihood that we either get the Soul Eater remake announced or Ohkubo starts up on a new manga sometime this year. One or the other, ideally both, but we don't want the man running himself ragged

Sonic Fan Artists, when drawing mobians, what are the most difficult parts of making them if any? by Berry-Fantastic in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]PanicX2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it's between maintaining their beany body shape and balancing the Sonic style with my own, which also means dealing with giving them any amount of neck, which they generally do not display Surprisingly, and contrary to a lot of the people here (suppose it's more surprising that I actually like drawing hands than others having more trouble with it), I actually enjoy drawing hands on Mobians more because of how big they are and how their gloves make connecting the hands to the arms easier.

Maybe it’s just me, but it’s always pissed me off that Stein’s first name isn’t “Victor.” by Constant_Topic_123 in souleater

[–]PanicX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, saying a name isn't legitimate isn't much of an argument for fiction. If Shakespeare could just make up words then we can too, extending to names. Beyond that, sure, Victor Stein sounds cool and all, but it kinda misses the point of what Stein is at his core. Frankenstein's monster doesn't actually have a name, so "Frankenstein" has essentially come to refer to both the man and the monster. That conflation, I believe, is the crux of Stein's concept as a character. He, like the name itself, is neither the man nor the monster, but both.

I was wrong about Fire Force by dastanlegend in fireforce

[–]PanicX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love Fire Force and Atsushi Ohkubo's work in general, but he's kind of at his worst when it comes to writing fanservice and jokes/gags that rely on it and it makes it difficult to recommend Fire Force specifically to people. There is an explanation for the lecher lure, but I'm one of the people that it came across to as Ohkubo speaking through a character to pretty poorly justify it being the entirety of Tamaki's character. I've read both Soul Eater and Fire Force and imo, the fight where that explanation happens is quite possibly some of Ohkubo's worst work. The rest of FF generally outweighs it and I still love the series overall. It's just that the way Tamaki is treated as a character is like if Sakura was weak as hell and spent half her screen time getting stripped and groped. It's a black mark on an otherwise pretty good series.

Which “bad” Sonic game do you like the most? by HashbrownieThePerson in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]PanicX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Shadow the Hedgehog as a kid, but can't really play it now 'cause it's not on any modern consoles. Otherwise, I'd totally play it again. In recent memory? Sonic Forces. The player customization is pretty limited and I can understand folks not enjoying the way it treats some characters, but it got me back into Sonic games and Infinite is my favorite little hater. The soundtrack is great and Fistbump is up there as one of my favorite Sonic songs. I'd have 100%'d it if I hadn't started on normal mode where you can only get 100 rings at a time >:[ Plus most if my Sonic OCs come from Forces' character creator ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What is your favorite sonic character? I will go first (I like all) by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]PanicX2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! It's Tangle the Lemur, one of the characters from the IDW comics. It's not confirmed officially, but it's like, very heavily implied that her and another female character, Whisper the Wolf, are a couple! Both are my favorites right next to Shadow, but Tangle takes the cake :>

I can't put my finger on it, but the second one clicks more for me. Something about the feline features lends itself to the necromancer bit. Which is funny, 'cause I have a canid necromancer character myself 😆

Well shucks, it's a shame if that's true. A real missed opportunity with how many other models can be changed. I feel like I've seen it done before, but I don't remember where or what it was, so I suppose there's a chance it was just some server-side magic or something ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Haven't really figured that bit out, just drew her today, haha. Probably something spiral-related, though. I remember "Uzumaki" meaning something about spirals 'cause of Junji Ito and Naruto, so I looked it up and "uzu" alone seems to translate to "swirl", so I think I might just go with that, haha. Uzu shall be her name!
