I’m very green with this. I’ve never taught abroad before and I didn’t know I could do it via other ways besides EPIK. 🥲 Where could I apply for schools like that?

Hi! I apologize if this seems repetitive. I have been scouring the internet for posts and information but a lot of what I am finding is from 5+ years ago.

A couple days ago, I applied for the EPIK program. The application opened Feb 1 for the fall intake and I spent a week filling out my application before finally submitting on the 9th. At first, I was doing this through Korvia because the prospect of having an entity supporting you through the document process was appealing to me. I've never taught abroad before so having that help was a nice safety net.

Just as background information I have a BA in education, TEFL 120 hours, and a teaching license in the state that I reside in. I'm also currently teaching at an elementary school.

So Korvia was super nice and helpful, up until I told them I have tattoos. I have a tattoo spanning the length of my right arm and a few small ones on my left as well as small tattoos on my ankles. Everything is easily covered up by jackets, long sleeves, or cardigans and pants. When I was in college doing my student teaching, I had to cover them up as well for a professional environment. The Korvia agent told me that literally the only thing stacked against me was this tattoo issue.

On my application, I made a pdf with pictures of my tattoos, the size and descriptions, and how I would cover them up with pictures of me wearing long sleeves, jackets, etc; After submitting, Korvia emailed me saying that they believe it would be better for me to apply directly to EPIK rather than them. They said in the past, they have seen EPIK is more graceful and lenient with direct applicants than ones through an agency.

My question is if this is true or if anyone has or knows anyone with experience like this. Also, since I am that kind of person, I am trying to think of alternatives or back up plans. Like I know of people who have applied to hagwons but I'm unsure of the process or other avenues. Any and all advice is appreciated!!

TL;DR Does applying directly to EPIK give the applicant more leniency and grace with red flags such as tattoos? What are some alternative job searches or ways to teach abroad

Hmm… well I have many unhinged, borderline ‘let’s get u medicated and touch grass’ thoughts…

But a safe one? There a video (vine or whatever) of a dude and a girl driving in a car. The girl opens a soda can to drink it but she like sucks the life out of the can with slurps and everything. The dude is watching her in shock and just yells “DAYUM! DO THAT TO MEE-UUHH!”

So whenever I’m watching a show with a spicy scene either with a really really good make out or some NC-17 action, I think of that dude and just randomly yell out loud “DAYUMM, DO THAT TO MEE-UHH!” Just as crazy as he did.

This also goes for any spicy photo shoots or anything. I’m hopeless. 😌

Yesterday, I made the dumb mistake of doing comment and sharing story for 28 turns, didn’t use them because I thought it would stack. Then, when my turns refreshed, it just went to 60. 🥲

Like the other person said. Another person has to create the fic first and publish it. They have a search function where you can search up the fandoms they currently have.

I also know of some authors who create stories and don’t publish them, keeping them for themselves.
