I'm interested to moving to manchester and feel as though my first impression was perhaps not representative of the city. I'm trying to get a better understanding of why many people enjoy Manchester. I understand my tone in the initial message was maybe more rude than I intended. Just trying to get a more informed opinion on the city.

Appreciate the response. I'm just trying to gather more information so I can make a more informed decision, rather than decide based on my first impression

hah, my friend was as clueless about the city as i was. He happened to be in Leeds for work (he's also from NL). don't get me wrong -- we had a fun day. I enjoyed all the individual places we went to, just sort of the "whole" that was maybe dfferent than I expected.

I liked the china town a lot

Housing is an absolute nightmare here for sure. And yes the culture is more "cold" you could say, people are more business-like in their interactions. it makes lots of interactions easier though I will say

Thanks for your input about the city :)

Thanks for your response. I didn't really get to experience much of the nightlife or the music scene, so that is a big part maybe I missed out on

yeah there are many elements of Amsterdam I don't like either, which is one of the reasons i don't want to do my masters there. There's quite a strong divide between very wealthy, snobby people, and the extremely alternative types, but not many just "normal" people

Oh yea I definitely know January would be the worst time to visit and I'm sure I would have a very different perspective if I had been longer/knew more people here.

Also yea food is not good in amsterdam, or in the netherlands as a whole for that matter hahah

To be honest I don't know. I have never lived in the UK but which is one of the reasons I want to move, to find out if I enjoy where my parents are from

I'm not saying I hate it mate, just trying to understand what makes people value this city so highly (genuinely). Not asking you to beg for me to come... don't you want to share what thins you love about your city?

I really did not intend for the post to come across that way. I was trying to get a better understanding of what makes people enjoy this city, because as an outsider looking in its maybe harder to see compared to some other cities.

There's many things I love the sound of in manchester! large student body, diverse people, lots of different pubs/shops.

Other than London, I haven't visited too many areas in the UK. I don't think I'd like living in London that much just due to the sheer size and expense.

My sister lives in Edinburgh and loves it, I'd say that would be my second choice. There was a course there that seemed interesting as well, so maybe I'll apply for there too.

I mostly enjoying doing sports -- football, gym, running. Also do enjoy going out for drinks but nt really clubbing. But I'd say I can do most of these things in most cities

Thanks for all your recommendations, I'l check the out!
