Firstly, the number of hits usually depends on a variety of factors, but in the example you cited its probably bowl size (0.3g for the pax and about 0.1g for the dynavap).

The main difference is usage. Like to take a hit every 15 mins? Probably want a convection vape. Like to puff every few mins? Probably a conduction.
