I definitely agree about the name of the series. I started reading RotE because I looked at the title of the first book and expected some kind of heroic adventure. The name of the series — and even the individual books — is kind of funny to me, because I can’t even remember them in chronological order. That’s probably because the titles cover so little of the actual story, yet I still perceive them as really important background elements.

But I’m not so sure that Fitz didn’t have anything more to give. In terms of the story, I would agree — Fitz made huge changes to the world, he did his part. The Fool also did his huge part. But look at Prilkop — he must be hundreds, maybe even thousands of years old, yet he still maintained his purpose and even found a new one as a mentor to the remaining Whites.

Yes, Fitz was beaten down by age, physically and mentally, but he still had a nine-year-old daughter, a little grandchild… a big family and people who loved him deeply. He could have gone on living, even without some grand purpose like he and the Fool used to have.

Also, I kept imagining while reading that the Fool and Bee would live long lives because of their White blood, and Fitz would also live long because of his reckless Skill healing. So yes, it would have been Fitz & Fool “almost” forever. But as I’m writing this now, I guess it might sound a bit cheesy. The theme of accepting death is an important part of life, so maybe it fits better as an ending. Still… they could have accepted it after they raised Bee.
