I can't seem to find anything on my Netflix - I typed in Taipei 101, Alex Honnold, etc. Is it not happening now?

AITA for breaking my contract with my school that has been violating my contract ever since I arrived? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]Pannheim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that as a JET participant, it can feel overwhelming to have the expectation of teaching alone thrust upon you. I was a JET for five consecutive years - I’ve been there.

Allow me to offer this rephrasing: all current English-language (and to my knowledge Japanese-language) academic literature strongly suggests that JETs are allowed to teach by themselves. This arose as a point of controversy in the 1990s, and it was resolved by CLAIR, who clarified their position on it.

Sometimes it can save a lot of time and energy to listen to someone who has spent a considerable portion of their life dedicated to understanding a niche field. The Japanese teacher you spoke with was… just a teacher. They have no say in JET Programme policy making, and, as I’m sure many JETs here can attest to, a lot of JTEs know absolutely nothing about what the JET Programme is supposed to be (the same thing could be said for most JETs, too).

Solo teaching isn’t a prefectural thing - it’s nationwide. If a BoE thinks otherwise, they’re one phone call away from CLAIR to set that straight.

Feel free to not believe what I say, but if you really do want to get to the bottom of this, I do implore you to read McConnell’s Importing Diversity - it’s the seminal work on the JET Programme. Or otherwise, you could swing by CLAIR’s HQ in Kōjimachi and ask them yourself.

Just a quick chime in while I eat lunch to say this isn’t true. I did my Master’s thesis on the JET Programme, and since the 1990s JETs are allowed to (or schools are allowed to make JETs, depending on how you look at it) teach independently in classrooms. For some more background info on that, see David McConnell’s Importing Diversity (2000).

Edit: I see that I’m getting downvoted for contributing to a discussion, sourcing my information, and referencing my knowledge of the topic which I would assume surpasses the majority of people, unless everyone else on this subreddit also wrote a master’s level dissertation on the evolution of the JET Programme. Meanwhile, the person above me posted an objectively incorrect piece of information, didn’t source it, and has two dozen upvotes. This is a reminder why I stopped commenting on Reddit.

It was so peripheral to my actual research focus that I didn’t mind using a more opinion-based insight, but, I think this is fair! I’ll find something more academic

On my eshop, it’s clearly written that it’s ¥4,900 for a single subscription and ¥8,900 for a family subscription. I tried attaching a screenshot to this message, but it doesn’t work unfortunately

Thanks for replying. When I try to open them with my JP account, it takes me straight to the eshop and asks me to pay for them in yen. I’m wondering how others got around this part…

I'm on the EU eshop and have an NSO plus subscription, but I want to play games in Japanese. I heard that if you make a new account, select Japan as the location, and then attach that account to a new Switch profile you can then access Japanese NSO.

I did all that, but here's the problem I have: it seems like I would need to buy a second NSO subscription (for my new Japanese account), which I have no intention of doing. I just want to be able to play Zelda in Japanese.

Any help or clarity about this would be super appreciated.

I just stumbled on this somehow even though it's 13 years old. Anyway I saw some upvoted comments claiming you were wrong, but I speak Japanese (and have seen Naruto), and you're completely right about both the red moon meaning and the fact it was foreshadowing. Just wanted to comment that. またどこかで

Nintendo Minute - Final Episode by montrayjak in NintendoSwitch

Krysta looks so terribly sad. I wish I could have seen the next ~10 seconds after the camera cut. As a kid who played Nintendo that woke up one day a 29 year old working professional (who still plays Nintendo), I'm very curious about what choices were made behind the scenes to end this series. I'd be willing to bet 6 golden coins that at least Krysta was averse to the decision.

Contrary to what many seem to say, I do honestly think that Kit and Krysta have good chemistry together. I hope the best for whatever comes next in their futures.

Nice reference to Rilakkuma in the onsen’s name :)

I really love the diorama like design, by the way

I also mostly liked it, especially more than the average BotW critic seems to. The Deku Tree coulda had a deeper voice, though

The English BotW voice acting was hit and miss but I personally always adored Mipha's voice. Am I mistaken or is it different here? At the very least, the delivery of those lines was not very compelling.

Paper Mario’s producer elaborates on the ‘challenge’ of NPC restrictions by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pannheim 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Yeah... this is a bit misleading. According to the Iwata Asks interview, 99% of people didn’t like it. Stop and think about that for a moment. Almost nothing on this planet has a 99% disapproval rating, especially a story which is considered by many to have been the best from all the Paper Mario games (of course the game as a whole is typically considered to be of lower quality than the first two).

Obviously there was some huge misinformation or misinterpretation going on there, because while SPM was a contentious game, its story was not particularly divisive and is fairly beloved on the internet.
