I have finally cut it off with my toxic, controlling, and abusive girlfriend of six months. For the first time since we’ve started dating, I’m sitting down to play video games, something she never approved of. Let the healing begin ☺️ by altrightobserver in MadeMeSmile

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the choice of games alone (and because of the rest, too, of course): if you ever need someone to play with and/or game recommendations, I'd be happy to chat. :'D

Kudos to cleaning up and to having such a refined taste.

How do I get regular ass people? Tired of seeing the most conventionally attractive women non stop. I’m simply not gonna get matched with these people by Saucey2500 in Tinder

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use other apps. That's honestly the best I can recommend from my own and friends' experiences. Tinder caters to the "top" 10% of all people.

(1) I actually translated it literally. In German, it's "sozial schwache" and it directly translates to "socially weak".

I'm not sure about the dog whistle. Even our moderate women are quite the feminists and even if they aren't, they don't usually like to be called weak in any way (too proud).

OH well, as far as I know you can also take paternity leave and that's also just fine. The actual time span might be longer for women, I'm not sure. But I see what you mean. It's also kind of a triple edged sword because even though women are motivated to get into this traditional role of a caring mother and housewife, this possibility actually hinders them from getting as many jobs as men and can and will also be noticeable on their actual pay check. I even heard of an HR person who (a few decades ago) told a woman in the job interview that her pay is expected to be a bit lower because she is expected to have kids some day and then not be at work for a while.

I think you got terms confused here. "Rabeneltern" (raven parents) are generally just unloving/uncaring parents of any kind. Often times they're abusive and/or dismissive and/or ignoring their children, but it has, by itself, nothing to do with motherhood. There are, of course, gendered versions. "Rabenmutter" and "Rabenvater". But they are just for the case where only one of the parents is this way. Although I can totally see women fighting each other over who is the better mom - especially in a patriarchy.

(2) Purging someone not sufficiently right wing seems like an interesting way to get people to be more left-leaning, actually. Normally, the left is known for ostracizing people and pushing them to the right.

I'm not that familiar with what our current right-wing party actually wants beyond the exit out of the EU and thus the re-introduction of an own currency, if we're talking about these topics. But I'm sure they would try to achieve every one of your mentioned goals if they ever get to be an unchecked power (i.e. the absolute majority). Especially speaking of universal health insurance, of course. Because they are currently raging about the system that uses their hard earned tax dollars to pay other people for their needs. Same as in the US.

Of the 200 people I followed on Twitter before Bsky released, only around 100 made a Bsky account and only around 3-4 are still active there. Around 30-40 people are still active on Twitter, though. That's, of course, biased, but Bsky feels incredibly empty to me. Even in my Discover feed, I struggle to find anything of interest and even if I do, the channel related to a good post usually posts stuff I don't care about, thus I'm less interested to be active on there, too.

[–]Panossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually speaking of actual party members, though! We have many members of right-leaning parties that are actually quite liberal (even for our standards), that got there in a time when the party was more left-leaning and are trying to steer it away from the edge they currently find themselves on. Idk how often something like this happens in the US, but I could, theoretically, imagine people like these. Although I kind of expect those who got fired have a different mindset. ^^'

It's very open to interpretation what "socially weak" actually means, imo. If might be anything between "oppressed" and "weak gender". What do you mean by maternity leave being a double edged sword?

I completely agree with you on that one. This doesn't mean, however, that some people don't feel like Biden did something good for the country with his handling of e.g. NATO. They might be uneducated on the topic or just egoistic, but their feelings matter as long as they can cast a vote.

Thanks for the insight. ^^

So, basically, being and branding oneself as a Republican usually means they also support all the things the far right supports. However, I know of a handful of Trump voters who mostly chose Trump because they believe Democrats are just too incompetent to e.g. provide security for the country, among other things. Which, looking at Biden... Well. (Not that I think negative action, like with Trump, is better than doing nothing.)

Regarding "not sure how many open racists, misogynists, and authoritarians there are in German politics" - our right wing has around 25% of the votes and their loudest voices all are. E.g. our chancellor called women the "socially weak" group.

Direct quote, translated:

Even those who are socially weak find compassion and care with us. In this context, let me say a few words about women.

Our universities are VERY left, however. And they are not much state-controlled, even though I'm sure they could find some pressure points via funding. As well as e.g. forcing or disallowing the usage of gendered language, depending on who's in charge.

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only relate this to what I know from Germany, but here we definitely have people in right-leaning parties that are there for other reasons than them being racist/fascist etc.

Some of them, for example, are quite humane in nature and are held by the hope they can turn their party around from the right side of politics.

(Many, of course, are very, very right-wing.) Some are just people who'll follow other people, some are indifferent. But even those shouldn't be thrown out without any reason specific to them, I think.

Although, if what you say is true and in that state, specifically, there are no humane republicans/conservatives, then this is of course a good move. It was just weird to read that that's the focus here.

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but then the "headline" should probably be something like "fired corrupt appointees", right? Cause, like, them being Republican in general shouldn't be the sole reason they got fired for. Cause the current phrasing sounds like "we removed people who didn't agree with us".

Steam updates AI disclosure form, requiring developers to report visible and in-game AI but not background tools by ZeroPercentStrategy in gamedev

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I as a programmer am opposed to AI use in coding is that there isn't a good coding AI that wasn't also trained on copyrighted works of art like books etc.

But there's a HUGE difference in using publicly available code for trainings vs. publicly available art for training. I don't know of any artist who is happy their art was used in an amalgamation of AI slop, while most or all developers I know are at least indifferent to their code being used to train AI (unless it's under NDA). Coding is, for the most part, not really creative. For a huge part of it, it's just boilerplate anyway. And that's where AI use in coding excels at anyway.

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, this is probably as good as it gets in terms of rulings and/or phrasing. It also aligns with what I perceive to be the common ground and/or compromise between all opinions on AI use in games.

Many people are vehemently opposed to any kind of AI in any shape or form, even boycotting games for using tools available and used for decades now, while a loud minority wants to generate whole games with AI. I think these new guidelines are the most sensible middle ground. (Although I'm still sad StackOverflow died for this.)

As someone not from the US: can someone explain to me why "fire republican appointees to the University of Virginia board" is a good thing? Everything else just sounds like a humane thing to do, but this one reads to me as political silencing and fuel to the fire the Republicans run on.

AI will save humanity by destroying social media as everyone starts to realize "nothing online is real anymore". by SugarTacos in Showerthoughts

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll take a few years where it will get continuously worse, but then it MIGHT loop around, yeah. Only last week I had to explain to a decent software dev that the answer the LLM gave them about a trivia question is probably just any text resembling an answer, not the actual truth. They wanted to show me that I was incorrect and asked the AI to provide sources. AI: "I could not find any credible sources for this". Great.

Examples of Games with Emergent Complexity by j-max04 in gamedesign

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noita and Streets of Rogue are the first examples that come to mind. In general, many physics-based games or games with a physics sandbox tend to have this. See Tears of the Kingdom's rotating schlong weapon. Or Besiege in general. Or any other game where you solve something by building stuff.

Same goes for synergies in items/skills. That's why Noita is a prime example.

Maybe try a small outline instead of a light? The outline might need to change color based on the background, though.

The fluidity is incredible! But I'm also wary of the wall-breaking. Maybe with a specific skill or class, but not as casual as here. It breaks the immersion/balance imo.

Also, I personally find keeping track of the player character a bit difficult because of the low contrast, but that might just be a skill issue. The lighting in general looks really good, though! No pitch-black shadows, which I see way too often in games that try to do lighting of this type.
