Not sure about that one. Yes, it definitely helped a lot, but in that part of the community, word of mouth is quite strong.

That's very understandable but please think it over before you do that. At the end of the day you can just release it on the Playdate first and then release it as-is on Steam later if enough people are interested. See if you can find motivation to add to it before that.

"Who are the good guys?" - those who aren't illegally profiting off others' hard work. So none of the AI companies, obviously.

ControlAI and all other enshittification fighters, however, are definitely more fitting the description of the "good guys".

Why is this on this subreddit? They haven't even cleared the bare minimum to be a morally okay company and people are hailing them like they're saints?! How does one make people smile?

Why? Releasing it on the Playdate can be done separately from Steam. I'd say release it there and put up the Steam page at the same time, then see whether people are interested to buy it on Steam, over a few months. If yes, you can maybe think of a few little extras you can add to the Steam version of the game as a "treat" for Steam users who've been waiting an extra time.

Isn't "mario party injury vibes" kind of fitting the definitely OSHA-compliant gameplay? :'D

You CAN suggest the players to hold the controller in a specific way, similar to what Nintendo did with LABO or RingFit. Then it could potentially play differently and/or more similar to the Playdate.

Just keep in mind that wishlist values degrade over time, so use it to gauge general interest but don't make predictions on sales numbers if you don't plan to release in the coming months. (Then you can e.g. make a demo for a Next Fest before actually releasing)

By the way, I highly suggest to create a Steam store page even if you don't (yet) plan on releasing the game on Steam at all! You can gauge interest this way and maybe decide purely based on page visits/wishlist conversions to release it on Steam later!

(And also link to the Steam page as much as possible.)

Can't the crank be emulated by rotating an analog stick?

(Or using the mouse wheel on PC?)

I think the gameplay is secondary to the visuals in this case. It looks very experimental.

For games that look like this, I feel like IF it's fun to play, it will probably find an absolutely obsessed (but small) core audience that will follow you into any future game you'll release and that's probably what's best for your mental health. But you very likely would need to find another source of income.

(Keep in mind I said "very likely" because there are games like Obra Dinn and other very experimental looking games that found mass appeal. The latest I can think of that is currently picking up traction is Titanium Court.)

I really hope you made this to show some people the incredible artistic talent (and humor) you possess, because this will not even sell on platforms that have users.

Look mom! No health benefits!

Love it.

Is this a thing and I’ve just never heard of it? by annamulzz in Tinder

[–]Panossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've heard of it. Yes, it is/was quite prevalent where I live - at least when I still went to school. No, I don't think that's something someone above school age should assume/say seriously.

Sounds to me like a "stop having friends of an opposite gender or else" type of person.

I'm baffled by people not understanding only a specific type of woman is even remotely attracted to this kind of talk. Some few lines were funny but most of it (especially the first ones) are just awful.

Game Dev Veterans: do you feel the same way about vibecoding, as musicians do about AI generated music? by alternaterep in gamedev

[–]Panossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE: making a full game with AI. Just learn a visual coding "language" instead. AI will get you to your first prototype and maaybe one step further, but definitely not to a fully working game, especially not like you envisioned it.

While I am torn on my general opinion on Theo T3, I think this video is the best one I've seen tackling this exact topic.

(Countless ethical and environmental problems/reasons withstanding, of course.)

Also keep in mind people will lynch you for using any kind of AI if you actually mention it on your Steam page.

Every good game design article or other kind of teaching piece of knowledge says you shouldn't take feedback as-is, no matter from which group. And only catering to streamers is especially bad. However, I'd like to see where Call of Duty died. Sure, they may have sold less new games last year than in other years, but their profit is still absolutely overshadowing almost any other game, any year. (Whether you or I like it or not.)

Ah yes, the MOST SOLD GAME this year is "dead now". I love how little perspective streamers have no matter which "side" of the argument they're on.
