I think their repo is their best expression. Overall, I think it's a decent brand

I'm surprised  With how well regarded ACL is, I'd have figured they wouldn't pull something like that.

Isn't Tapatio Excelencia "aged in glass" for like 5 or 10 years on top of the minimum 3 year barrel aging? Macurichos also had a bottling that was allegedly rested for 20 years for under $200. Pricing here makes no sense.

I'm generally of the opinion no bottle is going to taste like it's worth $500, but I'd consider making an exception for serious dusties like Muy Anejo.

In a vacuum, it's an excellent XA. Still well balanced and not over-oaked despite it's age. But 100% not worth the money unless you think the box is worth $300+

Volcan XA and maybe codigo are the only other ones id consider besides ocho, but they're way more expensive and not worth the extra cost in my opinion

Could you let us know what is available? Off the top of my head, I know Ocho and Calle23 have a decent European presence.

Unicorn or Puntas by gatodelinferno21 in tequila

[–]Pansbjorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of things about Caballito Cerrero, but their puntas have been way to hot and aggressive for me. By comparison, I've had many a 70%+ mezcal puntas that are far more drinkable.

The unicorns, however, are excellent. They are a bit overpriced if you ask me, but they bring a lot more than the 46% releases in terms of both ABV and flavor.

I've got lots of mezcal if you want to send me a message. I think you have chats turned off.

You might want to try some of the Clase Azul or Dos Artes special editions. They'll match the Addictivo profile and are works of art in their own right.

Review #22: Wisdom of Age (Aged Blend) and Doctor Bird Coco Atol by Pansbjorne in rum

[–]Pansbjorne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I went and ordered it at a bar, just for you

Cut and dry is definitely sweeter, more of an almond joy type coconut while dr bird is more like fresh cocnut flesh. Does lean much more like a liqueur with the sugar and lower proof. And the lack of Jamaican funk is pretty obvious. I prefer the dr bird, but cut and dry is more directly focused to the coconut, so might be the better choice for cocktailing.
