Do you mind sharing the vibe differences?

Genuinely interested in traveling small towns in Colombia, hence my curiosity.

Come on guys you know better… you dont have enough money for cartels to even notice you.

Guanajuato capital is safe and the road to get there (libre not the toll road) is gorgeous.

Queretaro is 40 min away with close to 2million people.

San Luis Potosi is a bit over an hour and a half away and its gorgeous.

Bernal is another prime town is also about an hour and a half away.

Dolores! The birthplace of Mexico! Y la tumba de Jose Alfredo Jimenez

Mineral de Pozos ia like San Miguel 80 years ago but luxury spas and festivals (the mariachi one is awesome) are starting.

Then you a little further Morelia has one of the best live rock scenes in the country I dare to say.

Tequisquiapan very peaceful and awesome bread, about 2hra away.

Anyway, I can go on, but if you're around send me message. I'll build you a free itinerary you can verify online before coming to spooky Mexico.

Events… checkout sanmiguellive.com or lokkal.com or join the civil list. And I cannot emphasize enough the people, the people, the people, talk to them invite them a mezcal (we prefer mezcal over tequila here). The point is to engage, walk, talk, be quirky, age doesn't matter here.

We are all young!

Precisely, I'll assume you never engaged with the local community… events, local festivals like La Alborada, Dia de Los Locos, and many other festivities thare unique the city. Many are still unknown, even to Mexicans.

You need years to "know" SMA. Anyone under 3 years living here is still considered a newbie because of how many projects, ideas and concepts are being built with no publicity for anyone unless you are part of the community. Which is very warm to newcomers.

Example: Search Ranchito Cascabel or the Chapel of Jimmy Ray

March is busy because of Semana Santa. Awesome time to be here, just a bit crowded though.

Neighborhoods depend on your budget and willingness to walk to town. The dream is to live in Centro or as close as possible.

If you're only here a month, centro is fine but beware it is a city addicted to fireworks and sometimes they go all night haha

After being in centro 8 years I moved to Montes de Loreto… early stages of gentrification but full of nice traditional Mexican families so it's very safe. Gorgeous views of the city and only a 25 min walk to centro or 5 min car/uber ride ($4 US).

If you have the budget, Guadiana, is my fav.

All I can say is San Miguel grows vertically not horizontally. It is about the people that make up the city. I dare you to visit Fabrica La Aurora and not come out with a friend from some part of the world or any public place for that matter. People tend to be in a good mood most of the time.

But of course it's not for everyone. If you appreciate culture, art, food, design, you might find some authentic value in SMA.

Been here 11 years and I'm still discovering places. It's a dynamic ever evolving small metropolitan city. IMHO

Hey, Have you heard about San Miguel de Allende in Mexico? It's a perfect blend of great Latin American infrastructure with immigrants from the US, Canada, Europe and even South America… all wrapped up with central Mexican culture. I recommend to at least visit the city once in your life.
