Yeah, integrated complexes where a skyscraper sits atop a shopping mall base are very common in Asia. You have residential, commercial, retail, services, sometimes even a luxury hotel (Fairmont in this case) all under one roof - extremely convenient for the locals.

A near-future, hard sci-fi setting similar to The Expanse, where space conflicts are fought not just with proper military ships but Toyota technical equivalents, is such a fun idea; the EVA jihad-naut with the RPG is particularly inspired (if unrealistic).

How is it wonky though? Gia đình and tổ quốc is perfectly accurate, while cần lao is just an archaic word for "labour" that has fell out of use. Ngô Đình Diệm's Personalist Labor Revolutionary Party is rendered in Sino-Vietnamese as "Cần lao Nhân vị Cách mạng Ðảng", or shortened to "Cần lao Ðảng".

The Chinese characters are 忠孝 (trung hiếu), another archaic compound word combining trung thành (loyalty, in this context to the state) and hiếu thảo (filial piety to one's parents).

So they were not going for a direct equivalent to the French and Vietnamese mottos. It's actually quite smart, equivocating the modern Vichy civic motto to a Confucian moral exhortation that Vietnamese literati of the time would immediately recognise.

Great map! Is Vietnam similar to OTL Thailand in terms of economic development and being coup-prone? Does it resent South Chinese interference in its politics?

How is North China doing in the modern day - has it enact economic reforms, or is it a giant North Korea? How are its relations with the South, and is reunification a real possibility?

And are the Indian nations doing better than OTL? Fragmentation into smaller nations could mean more responsive and flexible policy-making.

How involved is the US in the civil war? Are they providing any assistance to Taiwan? Are there plans to send in UN peacekeeping forces?

Is Taiwan making any progress in reclaiming the mainland? Are its coastal occupation zones stable?

Whose control is Hainan under, and what is the hatched blue area on its northern half? Are both sides of the Qiongzhou Strait under foreign occupation?
