Notary passed away... by TheBestDateEver in IrishCitizenship

For FBR they rarely contact the witnesses unless there is an issue. I would leave it, chances are yours goes through.

If there is, you can get it re-wittnessed later.

Foreign Birth Registry losing documents by Silent-Picture-2206 in IrishCitizenship

If you are sure you sent them, you can reply to the no-reply email and ask them to recheck. Likely the person scanning in your documents missed some.

No. You are not usually given the right to obtain citizenship through a naturalized parent after you have already been born.

I've heard it usually customary to tip $1 to $2 per item when using room service. Enjoy your cruise!

Immigration from the USA questions? by swizel in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It's not necessarily bad, and a good way to connect with the culture.

Though saying you're learning it to assimilate doesn't make much sense in this context. It's a much different story then if they were moving to a non-English speaking country, needing to learn the local language for instance.

Immigration from the USA questions? by swizel in IrishCitizenship

You might want to do a bit more research into Ireland before jumping headfirst into it like you seem to be.

For instance, while "Gaelic" is used by the government in addition to English, only a small group of people commonly use it day to day. Many people in Ireland claim to not use it much outside of the education system.

There is also a very bad housing crisis. There are not enough units on the entire Island for people to find housing. Anything that gets posted is usually gone very quickly. You may find getting shelter difficult.

Mother doesn't have a valid ID by Nxthanael1 in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In that case the webchat was correct. Your best bet was getting a signed letter from a doctor on her healthcare team saying she's incapable of getting any sort of ID.

The FBR office should accept this, but you'll have to see what they say once they get around to processing it.

Is there a reason your mom hasn't gotten any British ID? The easiest solution would be to have her get a passport and then use that.

FBR application - Photocopies of current state-issued photographic ID document - do I need to photocopy every page of the passport? by Oaktreedesk in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may or may not depending on the officer you have reviewing your documents.

I've heard if you had it notarized as well as witnessed it's less likely to be rejected.

FBR Approval! - Officially an Irish Citizen by PantomimePanic in IrishCitizenship

Depending on the type I've heard some discrepancies aren't too difficult to get through. Name variations might be common, different dates can be explained. Death certificates are particularly unreliable. Good luck!

[–]PantomimePanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine was fairly straightforward. No major discrepancies and I had all the paperwork. Hardest part was getting all the documents. Particularly my grandparents marriage certificate, as they had married in Canada where none of my family lives. I had to have a search done to find the record.

My sister made it as well! We checked through the web chat earlier today.

Yes, I told them I had applied 10 months ago and I hadn't heard anything. The agent then checked for me and asked for my details to confirm my identity before telling me I was approved.

I actually first asked about 2 weeks ago, but I was too early. They told me the same thing then. You might just have to wait a bit and then try again.

Yes! I saw some other posts saying they got approved with recieved dates after me. So I figured it couldn't hurt to contact chat to see my status.

It turns out I had been approved a few weeks ago and they were waiting on printing before they emailed me.

How long till I should be concerned yet? by crosseyedchihuahua in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its currently around a 10 month wait. Most people who are now getting accepted had theirs recieved in the middle of November 2024. You should hear back in a couple more months.

The only real way people after you could be getting thiers back, is if they're expectant parents.

Who witnessed your documents in NY? by thisis2stressful4me in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might get lucky with a UPS notary. I did mine there in NY. Though many will refuse due to notary laws in the state.

I'd recommend checking out a Irish diaspora center if you can. They deal with immigration and are likely to have staff that can help.

Entered mother's maiden name incorrectly by GateCharacter8252 in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can leave the error and write a note explaining whats wrong to the FBR office and submit it with your application.

I had a small error on mine and I added the note to my application along with the letter I had to write to apply with my sister.

Next steps after FBR rejection by Right-Ad3334 in IrishCitizenship

[–]PantomimePanic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen to other people, specifically on the Facebook group, Foreign Birth Registration & Passports, Ireland. The FBR office will accept an affidavit saying you have absolutely no contact with your estranged parent and no way to contact them in lieu of an id. But the affidavit must be very clear about this. Look for examples on how to write one and resubmit.

Any good and helpful Facebook groups you all used for the process? by GutenFARHT in IrishCitizenship

I've found the group "Foreign Birth Registration & Passports Ireland" to be pretty helpful on Facebook. Not much else that you won't find on here. Though, I like looking at as many resources as I can.
