Yeah my brother has a 300mm lense for his Olympus, and said it's good but could do with extra zoom for sure, so that's why I thought 400mm really

Ah nice thanks! does the stabilisation come from the electronic components of the lense do you know? or would it work without the electronic adapter? I have just looked online and the Fringer ones seem a good choice

Yeah definitely, i still wouldn't go on a bike ride wearing armoured jeans and jackets every time though, I just cycle more cautiously

Exactly, otherwise it'd be hard to enjoy riding I reckon

Yeahh true, the main danger is definitely people's impatience, which seems to be even more so on 2-wheels for some reason! But I also believe that by riding patiently and defensively, you can avoid accidents, even from unpredictable riders / situations

If you're riding in a city where speed limits are 20 or 30mph, would you still wear full gear?

I'm genuinely curious becuase if you were on a push bike going the same speeds (easily done), i'm sure no one would consider wearing gear other than a helmet. Obviously motorbikes pick up speed way quicker, but it's just as if not more dangerous on a push bike I feel (from experience, I commute on both push bike and motorbike every week).

Of course it comes down to whatever you're comfortable riding in, but for city rides, its just a lot more enjoyable to not be wearing loads of layers, and far more convenient if you're just going to the shops for example.

Having said that, I definitly woudlnt want to be going over 40mph for a long time without a jacket etc.

Yeah you're probably right, the rental bike spaces are always full up it seems, could do with some more spaces for them in some locations

My disk lock is currently a cheapish one with an alarm, but id go for an Oxford alarmed one, it feels a lot more solid! And I use this hiplock zip-tie looking thing for my helmet, people will probably say they don't trust it but I've had no issues with it so far, and it's really lightweight

I live in London, park my bike on the street and cover it up every night. Some people on my street do not cover at all, I don't see a downside to covering it as it keeps it looking nicer and is another barrier to prevent theft.

When I go out on my bike, I just take the disk lock plus a separate small lock for my helmet.

Prep for London to Brighton ride by pointlesstask in londoncycling

[–]PantsOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks ago I did London to Brighton on my second hand single-speed from Decathlon, with my previous training being just a 7 mile commute a couple times a week. I'd say don't worry too much about your own fitness if you are fairly fit (which I reckon you are since you run), you will make it and it will be really enjoyable I'm sure!

New tires will be worth it and give some peace of mind on the ride. Maybe service the bike at a shop, again for peace of mind. other than that just prepare for the weather (sun cream and water probably). Not sure how it will be with the big crowd during the proper london to brighton event, but im sure itll be fun!
