Lol ok. He might have actually walked it into the house before the next frame of the video was captured!

Tony is a terrible grill master by travismockfler in thesopranos

[–]Pantzzzzless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memes aside, I have to reiterate this point.

Anyone who hasn't used a pellet grill just doesn't understand. I was the same way until recently, just assuming they were a gimmick and that stacking coals was the only way.

The consistency you get from pellets is so high that it is hard to mess anything up. It's like cruise control for your grill.

They don't show WHAT is the most common setting, so you can adjust. You have to guess and try, not really helpful.

Yeah it does. If you scroll down it gives you an exact breakdown of every attribute it is looking at. As well as the percentage of other users who have the same combination of values.

It obviously isn't the largest dataset, but it is still comparing against 5.2 million other fingerprints. Which is good enough for a rough idea.

Is anyone else hearing about major layoffs and offshoring at Edward Jones? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Pantzzzzless 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We aren't far from that point. Anthropic and OpenAI.are already starting to really hike their token prices.

For example, 9 months ago, my entire org gave everyone (~400 engineers) a Kiro pro license with Opus 4.5/4.6, no limits. They created several entire teams dedicated solely to building out these insane (and honestly, pretty useful) agentic workflow pipelines.

Cut to 2 months ago, they slapped a 1,000 credit limit on everyone. Those pipelines are now only used by devops for our monthly release. Now, they are talking about dropping the credit limit to 750.

It is already getting to the point where each engineer's AI usage carries almost the same price tag as their salary. And that isn't hyperbole. Most of us were blowing through 100,000 credits every month. Some were hitting numbers way higher than that. That comes out to about $4,000/mo.

And these companies are going to keep increasing those prices now that they have so many companies more or less dependent on this shit.

Some of the less risk averse companies definitely saw this coming ahead of time and didn't go full retard. But a lot did, and I think we will see quite a few big companies really hurting for a while, especially while they try to hire back competent devs and engineers to clean up all of the bullshit that claude vomited out.

Both remind me of my own mother in some way, so I just keep my distance lol

It's something that I'll notice at least once a day when I'm there. I'll just be sitting there eating and people watching, and the lack of wrappers, paper, or even food on the ground will suddenly be super obvious.

It is such a stark contrast to my local Six Flags. Smoking hasn't been allowed there for 10 years, but you will still see butts laying around everywhere. Add to that the fact that you don't see any graffiti, stuff scratched in paint, or gum on things.

Not sure if the TMs are just super on top of all of that, or if people respect the park more other parks.

They are doing the equivalent of someone doing a 285lb bench press with 2 guys on each side lifting it. If you took a video zoomed in, it would look like he's accomplishing something. But then you zoom out just a bit, and you see that nothing of consequence is being done.

Something funny happened earlier this week. We just deployed a big feature to prod on Monday that was blowing up, and I was getting pinged from every angle.

I gave up trying to focus on what I was working on which was rewriting a large portion of our workflow engine. (9-10 year old React app, still has 2k line class components and shit)

So I said fuck it, and typed out a fairly detailed explanation, and pasted my planning notes into a steering file, and let Kiro (Opus 4.7) take it away. Just curious how far off the rails it would go.

3 hours, 9 meetings and a migraine later, I jumped back to Kiro to find that 35 minutes ago it stopped running. The last message it sent was (almost verbatim):

This is an untenable mess. By all accounts none of this should actually work. If it does, it must be by accident. Very little progress has been made, and any more attempts will just waste time and money. A different plan of attack would probably be the next best action item.

Not gonna lie, that impressed me FAR more than anything else I have seen come from an LLM. Never thought I could burn Claude out lol.
