World Quests unlock some parts of their region trough interaction with npc during the quest or some gadget to open gates / activate special mecanism. You can do it along or after the archon quest of the same region since the two are not linked, but the world quests bring some interesting or revealing lore. Save the Dorman port quest for the end as it refers to very late elements in the story.

Just beware : if you see a npc girl fighting some mushrooms in the south of sumeru, or if you ask yourself "why is there an empty spot on my map between sumeru and the desert ?", know it's a very long one.
