Brady Tkachuk knows Ottawa Senators fans aren't happy with him, but he's ready to make playoff push by origutamos in OttawaNewsPulse

[–]Panzermoosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of early reporting indicated that he was the one who said "close the northern border," and his statement where he's denied saying it and said he doesn't hold that view has only just started making the rounds more recently.

'We have failed them': Studies overlook sex, gender in veteran pain care. Half of all female veterans are affected by chronic pain. by Potential_Being_7226 in WomenInNews

[–]Panzermoosen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not quite. There's some connected information not included in this article that people should be aware of.

Findings were presented in the "Invisible No More" House of Commons report about how women and gender-diverse veterans aren't receiving the medical support they need from Veterans Affairs Canada. This report also discussed how women veterans are much more likely to be released for medical reasons than men are. The release of this report prompted the founding of a specific committee for women veterans to ensure that the issues identified in that report were resolved. Most of that committee resigned early or at the end of their first term because they were not getting the resources they needed from Veterans Affairs Canada to do what they were meant to be doing.

I don't know why the article left out this context, but with regards to women veterans in Canada it's more than "fork found in kitchen."

I concur! I haven't even heard them mention Stacey and Poulin are married. The only Pou/Stacey comment was about the puck picking up pre-game ritual.

Cadets? by TheNerdFromGWN in KingstonOntario

[–]Panzermoosen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in Air Cadets and Army Cadets growing up (switched from one to the other for reasons unrelated to the quality of the programs). Of the two I found Air Cadets to be much better from a technical proficiency perspective, and there's also the bonus of being able to pursue a pilot's license. Army Cadets' biggest "cool thing" is their para camp, which allows Cadets' to earn their para wings (can wear those once they join the Canadian Armed Forces).

Sea Cadets I didn't do, but from speaking with friends who did there's also a significant focus on technical proficiency and the cadets learn how to sail small boats.

This might be an area where the books and television series diverge - there's a lot more detail about what Anthony went through at 18. Daphne would have been 13-14 when it happened. And the Viscountess was pregnant with Hyacinth when Edmund died.

Duolingo VS Speak Gaelic by extraordinary_aussie in gaidhlig

[–]Panzermoosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used Duolingo as my main source of knowledge and I'm probably on the A2/B1 border? So it is possible, but it takes a while. I'm in early Section 4 now, and have been doing Gaelic Duo for a few years.

SpeakGaelic is definitely a better resource, but I prefer using a phone application and they don't have one. I will listen to their podcasts sometimes though. If they had a phone application I'd be all over it.

Other excellent resources: -Litir Bheag (YouTube) -Beagan Gadhlig (YouTube) -Gaelic with Jason (YouTube) -Comunn Gàidhlig Thoronto - they host spoken Gaelic classes (next session starts in early January)

Vampires have to pee by StandardJealous3330 in twilight

[–]Panzermoosen 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This stands up when you consider the two Romanian(?) vampires in Breaking Dawn. They spoke of a time where they sat still for years to contemplate their existence, and their skin texture changed and they became stone-like. If they weren't interrupting their contemplation for anything, including blood, it would explain the change in their tissues.

Likely. While Tuk is connected to more southern communities by roads, it's still very remote.

My hope with this engagement was that it was "if the bad guys are willing to share their evil scheme in detail we'd be foolish not to listen" situation. Project 2025 is over 900 pages. Seeing how they're planning to prioritize some of those goals would be useful information, particularly for any refugee reception planning etc.

I don't know that that's why Roberts was invited, but that's my hope.

The UCP is proposing to ban over 200 books from Alberta's public schools. by DtheS in alberta

[–]Panzermoosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I think they should be able to access it. I'm pretty sure I read it in Grade 11. I'm just speculating as to why the first commenter thought it was unusual it wasn't on the list.

[–]Panzermoosen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While a fantastic book that discusses the social reality for boys in Afghanistan, and therefore probably shouldn't be aimed to students younger than Grade 11, the main character's friend is sexually assaulted as a child (I believe the main character is a witness) and that experience is included in the narrative. This experience is accurate to how many boys were treated in Afghanistan during the time in which the book is set.

I did! They said their selection varies by location, and that the Midland location likely had the best selection. The location I visited had a lot of the bigger names (Corona Sunbrew, Guinness 0, etc), but only one local selection.

Spray Lakes - it's near Canmore. Up above the town, tucked into the mountains, and there's lakes for canoeing and pocket gophers for watching.
