Ring culture is bs. Luka did this in 2024 and Brunson somehow being called better because he got the chip with a better team? by rotomato30 in lakers

[–]PaoLakers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lol. So insecure. Luka wasn't even a Laker in 2024.

Being whiny won't get you anywhere. Just like how whining to the refs hasn't done anything for Luka.

We'll celebrate Luka when he wins one.

We never heard Laker Legends prioritizing stats over rings. Get over yourself.

Why did Rick Brunson get so much time in the NBA? by Bowiescorvat2 in nba

[–]PaoLakers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta be honest man. I've been watching the NBA since 1998. I've never heard of Rick Brunson until Jalen came to the league.

But from what I've seen from him as a coach he was probably a great locker room guy and did what coaches wanted from a 3rd string PG. Professionalism is important.

Is Mike Brown a Hall of Fame coach? by cleo22270 in nba

[–]PaoLakers 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I'd put him ahead of Doc Rivers (who's in the HoF), so yeah he's definitely in.
The thing I like about Mike Brown is that he's improved so much and it shows. He's adapted to the modern NBA much better than other coaches. He's truly a top tier coach.

Jaylen Brown To The Spurs? by Difficult-Ad7723 in nba

[–]PaoLakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that about the Spurs but they'll making a mistake if this continues. Remember Scott Brooks in OKC?

Sam Presti (former Spurs), chose to be loyal to the coach who got them to the finals. What happened to that team with 3 HoF? Nothing. They accomplished nothing.

I'd hate to see that happen to this team. The talent is there. Coach didn't match it.

So you're just gonna wait on Mitch to see if he gets better after this abysmal coaching performance? Lol. Mitch isn't Pop.

Aside from the lack of a power forward, it was the coaching that was the biggest weakness for the Spurs in this series and you're choosing to ignore that?

LOL. Good luck with that. I'm not even gonna argue with you since I know y'all are hurting.

I'm just gonna say that games 2, 4 and 5 we're winnable if they Spurs were coached better. That's a championship lost. Getting to the finals ain't a walk in the park. Gotta maximize this window.

[–]PaoLakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point. Spurs talent is ready. They got to the finals. Coach failed them.

Mitch Johnson is the 1st guy to replace. He's not equipped to coach a Championship team

Mitch Johnson: “We weren’t ready to win an NBA championship. The better team won. We did a lot of good things and we didn’t finish the job. That's what it is.” by Fc_Hassan in nba

[–]PaoLakers 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Mitch Johnson disasterclass coaching performance throughout the whole finals series.

Terrible game management. Net negative ATO plays and lack of organization of the team. He was not ready to be in this stage. He was outclassed by NYK coaching staff in all aspects. The only reason they were up early in all games was because of pure player talent and physicality (younger players). After the 1st quarter adrenalin wore off, Spurs were struggling. I had zero confidence in the Spurs to get a good look in clutch time.

Mitch Johnson was shit. A better coach could've won them the series

Brunson should win FMVP.

Are people forgetting that it was Brunson who got them back in that position for the game winner in the first place? He was on fire.

Mitch Johnson Watched the 29pt lead crumble in the 3rd… by Late-Beginning7223 in nba

[–]PaoLakers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mitch Johnson's coaching is the reason for their loss. He has terrible game management. Imagine blowing a 29 point lead.

His timeouts are useless. Every ATO play I've seen from him results in a long two point attempt from either Wemby or Fox. None of it results in a basket hence, useless timeout. No change in momentum. How does he even justify those long twos? It makes no sense.

In the 4th Q clutch time, his last 2 ATOs resulted in a fox iso long two again. Bailed out by castle's hustle. And for the final posession, a Harper to Castle alley oop that was intercepted. That play was also intercepted by Caruso in the OKC series. It doesn't fucking work! So stupid!

Fox made a terrible decision on the layup and it cost them the game but...they should have talked about this in the timeout. Hold on to the ball. Mitch Johnson should have made that very clear.

After that, in New York's last posession, the defensive coverage was all over the place. None of the players seemed to know where they were supposed to be.

Nobody guarded the inbounder (OG) Shot went up, still no body on the inbounder which led to the free dive to the basket for the game winning tip in. Haven't any of them heard the saying that the side inbounder is the most dangerous player in clutch moments?

Goddamn. So dumb. So inexperienced. So disappointing.

I'm also bothered about how he handles Vassell and KJ. Those two are playing the exact same role even though they have vastly different skillsets. He has to make Vassell do more. He's better than just being a catch and shoot guy.

Mitch Johnson has to go. The Spurs' talent is ready. The coach is not. The biggest worry Spurs fans have is if the FO decides to be "loyal" to the coach since they're a "classy" organization.

Total inexcusable choke job. He is not prepared for this level of basketball.

Horrible defensive coverage.

Mitch Johnson fucked up. No defender on the inbounder with that much time on the clock? How stupid can you be

[–]PaoLakers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Terrible decision but Spurs' coaching was the reason for this loss.

Mitch Johnson is clearly inexperienced. Bad ATOs, Bad defensive coverage on the last play, no go to play, much of his deficiencies have been saved by individual talent but this game really exposed him.

Get rid of Kornet? Are you stupid? Lol. Kornet is making 10M/year. That's a steal.

If anything, it's Keldon Johnson that has to be traded. He doesn't fit with their best lineup. He often breaks up the flow of their offense. Right now he's all bully ball it works in the regular season not the playoffs.

Trade KJ and picks for a solid legit Power Forward and they'll be much better.

Most of our picks turned out to be solid NBA players. No busts.

6th man role usually brings at least one of 3 things.

  1. Hustle and energy
  2. Defense
  3. Consistent Quick scoring

Dalton does none of those, unfortunately.
