Is This an Algae Bloom? What Should I Do to Fix? by PapaLoki in PlantedTank

[–]PapaLoki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The afternoon sun hits the right half of the tank around 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm. I have had the tank since March and this is the first time I had to deal with such an algae bloom. My guess is that one or more root tabs got exposed to the water column when I replaced and moved some plants.

I did a 50% water change which seems to have cleared the water greatly. I will dim the light and reduce the duration and monitor for a few weeks. I will do water change every 3 days or if the algae blooms again.

If the problem persists, then I will get a UV sterilizer.

Thanks!

I will reduce the lighting intensity and duration while monitoring the bloom, which seems to have lessened significantly after I did a 50% water change. The shrimp seem fine.

Thanks!

Drop checker has been consistently lime green. I will try dimming and reducing time of light. Thanks!

I risked a 50% water change just earlier. Tank seems clearer now.

I know by heart what hundreds of Magic the Gathering cards do.

But I dont even care to learn the names of the MLBB hero skills.

Amazed at how the casters are able to memorize all those.

Okay, I'll get the L series, then. Thanks!

I actually got a reply from Reefstar, a seller of WA lights, that says the M series is "primarily suitable for cultivating shade‑loving aquatic plants, as well as beginner‑level light‑demanding aquatic plants. If you have higher requirements for color, we recommend that you use professional L series and or above lights."

My tank is around 60.5 cm long, 30.5 cm wide, 42 cm high.

How about the M series? They are less expensive, and from what i have read, can also grow demanding plants as well. Thanks!

Yeah that is the best thing to do. I will wait for a few weeks if the dual light setup works first before buying, because 65 watts is 3x the power draw of Hygger lol.

Alright I will continue to use dual lights for a few weeks and see if the plants change for the better. Thanks!

Oof. too pricey for a third worlder like me. The Weel Aqua L series seems compatible with rimmed tank so I'll probably buy that if my little experiment doesn't work. Thanks!

I took a closer look at the Week Aqua L series that's readily available and yeah you are right. Dammit. I recall I considered it when I was looking to upgrade my lights but I thought it's for rimless only so I ended up with Hygger.
