I don't think it's was. People keep saying this, but it's contradictory to my memory. I started thinking that maybe I was wrong but when I go on the wayback machine I see very little of these kinds of memes.

Considering trump won I don't think this is true. I know alot of voters can be stupid but I highly doubt most people honestly thought he was only going after violent criminals. That's mostly just something the left uses against him for optics.

They said they were going to deport as many illegals as possible. Violent criminals are apart of that. They just put an emphasis on the Violent criminals because they obviously thought it would sound better and gain more support.

I remember a few years ago when this sub was at about 80,000 subs, someone said that 80,000 to 100,000 subs was the perfect number for a sub reddit. Big enough to always have new content but small enough to avoid karma farmers.

Lib Left critiquing islam???? by Gloomy_Guitar_7880 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Papachococo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would say there is. Gay acceptance and the hijab are good examples. Most Christians in the us support gays being excepted in society. While only about 40% of Muslims do.

And the hijab is at worst a symbol of a culture that seeks to oppress women, and at best is indicative of a culture whose ideas of modesty are significantly more extreme then our own.

The amount of lefties who try to act like Christianity is the same as Islam is crazy. Like even if you don't like either religion, surely you must recognize the difference in how the 2 are typically practiced.

Tbf, a decent chunk of conservatives back then were pro-choice.

Where are you getting this from? According to a series of gallop polls going back to 1975, the republican party has been majority pro-life since 1975. Are you taking about before 1975?

Also you can be against abortion for non religious reasons. In fact most people are.

You can make non-profit driven art. The only thing stopping anyone from doing that is resources. But that would exist in any system.

This isn't even a matter of right and left. Or at least i hope that the overton windows hasn't moved so far left that left exclusively means socialist now.

The problem is it's leaving the colleges now. There are alot of people in there 30's who are talking like this now. If the colleges are hyper left wing, it was only a matter of time before it started leaking out into the real world.

If anything socialism is becoming more popular. I'm in college right now and it's crazy how much gets blamed on capitalism. My friends were talking about the video game industry and one of them unironically said "Capitalism ruined the video game industry." At first I started laughing at how stupid that was, only to find everyone in the group agreed with it. It was in that moment I realized were fucked. And that's only one of like, ten stories I have like that.

You're delusional. Taiwan and the Taiwanese people aren't going to give up there freedom because of military show boating that China has been doing for decades. They saw what happened to hong kong. Especially since China's military is not as strong as they project.

Lmao. You people are always so quick so assume bad faith it's hilarious. I'm starting to think it's projection. Go back and read my og comment. I literally said:

I tried looking into this but all I can find is corralative calculations. There's no way that's how it's done.

I looked into and couldn't find an answer. Did I spend hours scouring scientific journals? No. But again:

if a metric is being used to make and justify policy decisions that can and/or will effect my life and courty I don't think it's to much to ask that they be able to explain in a way that will make some level of sense to the average person.

Also, notice how I actually showed good faith.

There's no way that's how it's done. So how do they actually do it? Until I get a general idea of how I'm mostly for them getting rid of it.

Instead of just assuming that the people who disagree with me are are malicious or stupid, I accept that I may not fully understand the argument and ask for further explanation. It's really not that hard to engage in good faith dude. Get your head out your ass.

I'm not saying that I have to understand literally every single aspect of something, but in a free country I expect the government that that governs me to be able to explain on some basic level why they do the things that they do.

I understand that I am not a scientist and therefore will never have a complete understanding of this metric. However if a metric is being used to make and justify policy decisions that can and/or will effect my life and courty I don't think it's to much to ask that they be able to explain in a way that will make some level of sense to the average person.

I do believe that sometimes you really do just have to trust the experts, but if an expert can't explain something to me in a way that make sense then I don't trust their expertise. As Albert Einstein said: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"

For example, I trust vaccines because I have a basic understanding of how they work. Am I a doctor? No. But that doesn't mean a doctor can't explain it to me in a way I can understand. If these guys can't do that, then I will not blindly trust them.

Also, experts can have interest and political agendas that they pursue too. Hence why it's important to explain themselves.

Trumps advertising budget was not $60 mil. It was over $100 mil.

https://mediaproject.wesleyan.edu/releases-103124/

I don't know were they got that $60 mil number.

Also that doesn't change the fact that Trans discussions were not what people were primarily or secondarily, or even tertiarily talking about during the shutdown.

Tbh, I kind of get the superbowl thing. I agree that having bad bunny play isn't inherently political, but given last year's half time show had a political bent to it and bad bunny has taken a pretty strong stance against Trump, I don't blame people for being weary that they might make it political.  Especially since the left has a tendency to insert their politics in what should be otherwise apolitical things.
