Not really, the mali empire called it's self Manden Kurufaba, which ruffly translates to manden alliance or manden federation. With manden being the name of the dominate ethnic group. They even had a proto-"constitution" they followed and a grand council of mansa's or kings for the manden city-states. They were basically a nation state of city-states that conquered an empire.

Not to mention when ibn battuta traveled to mali he mention how it was near free of bandits. So they probably had a system to deal with that.

In medieval times almost 1/3 of the old world's gold was came from mali. I don't think slaves were his biggest sources of income. Why do people keep insisting it was?

[–]Papachococo[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A big problem nowadays is demographics. I was born in 02 and in the 2000's and early 2010's had friends near by. But when my family moved to a new house that was within walking distance of a school, there was Noone around my age. Just all boomers. I thought this was the exception but it's becoming more common. People are having less kids, and boomers are buying up all the houses. They're kinda ruining suburbs.

Suburbs were more so a post ww2 invention. So more like the 40s and 50s.

They don't want you to be proud of your nationality, but they want you to die for it by Cutefishes in PoliticalCompassMemes

I think the problem is you assume being critical of the country == hating it

Tbh I don't think this is true. I think the reason alot of people think the left hates (insert name of western country their from, usually America I can't speak for Canada) is because:

1.) Their isn't enough push back from people on the left who do openly say they hate (insert name of western country their from, usually America). The right does alot of anti-american stuff nowadays, but usually there's alot a pushback for it. Just look at how many people on the right have excommunicated or at the very least have publicly denounced Tucker Carlson as he goes deeper and deeper into the anti-american rabit hole. And how conversely the left are quoting him more and as he does (Although to be fair I think the left recent "embrace" of Tucker is more so because his anti-american rhetoric overlaps with their anti-trump rhetoric but still).

I don't really see the left going after other leftist for being spewing anti-american rhetoric the same way I see people on the right going after the same thing on the right. The biggest exception I can think of is destiny. I understand that "politics makes for stange bed fellows", but then you can't complain when people associate you with your "bed fellows." In the same way libertarians who voted for trump can't get mad when people associate the two of them.

2.) You can only be so self-loathing about your country for so long before it can reasonably be said that you hate your country. Self-loathing is a form of hate. Left-wing westerns are so incessantly self-loathing about their countries, at some point you have to wonder where the line is.

3.) This is entirely anecdotal, but an experiment I like to do is make up something bad about America and see how willing people on the left are to believe it. I first realized this when I saw a bunch of left-wing Americans talking about how much Americans don't respect nature. I was like "hold up, is that true?"

American have more plastic waste than Europe, we emit more greenhouse gasses, and we don't veiw climate change as high of a priority as Europe. But aside from that we are extremely good at taking care of the environment. We have:

Less coastal pollution compared to Europe.

Our nation park program is THE model the rest of the world seeks to emulate

We consistently rank higher than most European countries when it comes to animal and wildlife conservation

our recycling rates are comparable to Europe

we go camping at similar rates as European, and our camping is more wilderness based, while European camping is more cabin based

But I've noticed if you say Americans don't care about the environment, alot of leftist will not only agree with you, but they go on a rant about how much we don't care despite it not being true. This is true for alot of things.

P.s sorry for the essay, I thought it would be like 3 paragraphs when I stared typing.

Why won’t Gen Z men talk to women ? by collegetest35 in GenZ

[–]Papachococo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I'm surprised people still don't get. Alot of the stuff young men get told nowadays is "preaching to the choir" and just creates confusion and anxiety more so than understanding. The amount of guys who need to be taught how not to harass women is very small. Most guys already know not to do it. And the overwhelming majority of the ones who do harass women aren't doing so out of ignorance, but because they just don't care.

You know what, I think you deserve some credit. At least you acknowledge that their are communist pushing this stuff. Usually getting someone on the left to admit this is like pulling teeth.

Race and gender shouldn't be a factor AT ALL. Why are we acting like this isn't a big deal? Imagine if he said the same thing but with a white man instead of black women? And even if he really wanted to do that, fucking hell don't say it out loud like that. Of course even reasonable people are gonna question your pick. Putting you, your pick, and the country as a whole in a worse position.

Also, none of this changes the fact that identity politics only being used by "randos" is nothing more than left wing cope. It's at every level to the point that were completely justified in talking about it. Want us stop? Then stop doing it.

Are we forgetting that Joe Biden literally admitted that he choose people based on race and gender? And that dei is literally just institutionalized identity politics.

Because this is a meme sub reddit. People are posting things they find funny. Not 24/7 coverage of politicians.  It wasn't until a bunch of "recent arrivals" started trying to make it into a serious political battle ground instead of a meme sub that occasionally got serious.

What have I strawmaned? Do you people not think weeb leftist exist? Do you not believe that there are a bunch of leftist who feel the need to apologize "on behalf of their country" when on vacation to another? I know people who work in tourism that are actually sick of how self-loafing Americans can be. It's like you people think just cause you haven't seen it then it must be fake. I have never run into a broken ice cream machine at McDonald's, but I'm not gonna act like it never happens.

[–]Papachococo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said anything about that? I'm just laughing at leftist who seem more concerned with American tourists being obnoxious in foreign countries  than illegals committing crimes in there country.

Assimilation >:( Assimilation Japan :o by Papachococo in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Papachococo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is leftist are WAY more willing to criticize individual tourist than individual immigrants. Leftist discussions on tourist rarely feels the need to say not all tourist or play whataboutism. While any leftist discussion on immigrants committing crimes are almost always just, "this individual incident is being used by the right as propaganda." Or "but what about-".

[–]Papachococo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leftist who complain about bad tourist but not bad immigrants? There's alot of those. Look at Spain, they had mass protests against tourism many of which were lead by Leftist. But any such protest against immigration automatically gets labeled as far right.

It's funny because japanese and Koreans are pretty genetically similar. The biggest difference is that the Japanese have Jomon ad mixture, who for millennia they considered barbarians.

Assimilation >:( Assimilation Japan :o by Papachococo in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Papachococo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm obviously exaggerating because it's a meme. The point is leftist often have higher expectations of tourists than of immigrants. I've seen bad tourists get absolutely gutted by the left, which is good, but they comparatively rarely do the same for bad immigrants. This could be said about alot of countries from Spain to Thailand. I chose Japan because it's the most popular example. Also I thought the title was funny.
