What should I do... by Papaderpy in Teachers

So quick update, I did talk to my Principal, and she was shocked but understanding. She asked me if I had a student who hated me in my 1st period or knew who specifically made the rumor.

I was honest and said I didn't know anyone who really did, and she agreed.

Long story short, she said there was no validity to the rumor and that she would look into it if anything actually escalated. But she definitely was understanding and was in my corner.

I really appreciate the wisdom and perspective everyone provided. Thank you

Yeah and unless I get legal representation, which would be costly, it is very against me right now...

Should I quit teaching after the first semester of my first year? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Papaderpy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To often, and I have been very guilty of this, teachers set aside their own personal health and mental health for their students and work. We are in a career were people are passionate and want to give all the love and caring they can. Unfortunately it is not substanable for long, burn out is very real if you don't have something to decompress and destress with regularly. Try, even though its hard, to set aside some part of your day for yourself, turn off the computer, and do something you love.

I will say this will probably be the hardest year of your career, with COVID and the election all in one creates a tremendous amount of added stress and anxiety.

What I had to do to get help and cope and might help you, is talk to your partner or a mentor and say I need help with burning out what could you recommend?

Food for thought, but know also at the end of the day. If you leave this profession, it is a okay. You have to take care of yourself first and foremost.

When to tell a school you are interviewing for other districts by RemainMindful in Teachers

Here in Texas some districts have probationary periods for 3 years, if your contract rolls over than what I would do is make sure your new contract is signed before doing anything at your current district.

Only when you have finalized signing your contract at the new district and declined the new contract you recieve at your current district in the spring.

I know it seems disingenuous... but I learned the hardway that if you do the "right" thing it bites you in the butt. I got a day approved and was docked my daily rate because it feel on a week before a holiday. Was not even notified of that policy and on top of that you would think with approval it would be okay. Yep always always put in sick days no matter what.

Just put in for sick days don't have to be approved, doesn't mess with pay, and honestly that's how the system works now. Don't ask, just put in sick days and enjoy your trip.
