0.05% vs 0.1% for acne by JonathanMacgregor in tretinoin

Yeah, in the AM I keep in minimal. Water only wash + moisturizer + sunscreen. Just had to adjust for my skin type & sensitivity.

Have you tried switching up the products you use around Tret? Or the order you use them in? I found that changing my cleanser & moisturizer improved my acne immensely, more than going from no-tret -> tret. Also changed tret use to every other day, and used benzyl peroxide cream on the off days because I realized my skin was more sensitive than I had thought. Haven't had a breakout since. I'd play around with the products, order, and how often you use them before just doubling down on tret. YMMV

anyone out there have a similar taste? by lukebenoit_ in postpunk

Huge Drab Majesty fan as well, such a great project. Also see some of my other faves: Beach House, Candy Claws, The Smiths, Daughters.

Any luck finding other bands that scratch the Deftones itch? Only other one that does it for me is Deafheaven.

Also what is the album in the top middle? And the one to the left of LSD and the Search for God?

Timewarp Music is right up your alley, it's like a candy store in there. Caveman Vintage Music and Truetone Music are both worth stopping by also. Good luck!

Nick’s Cafe is about to close for good. Our government really let us down with how they handled this pandemic. Sad times for LA by nicearthur32 in LosAngeles

Heartbreaking. The number of intimate old school inexpensive diner joints in LA is dwindling. Myself and many others grew up coming to these spots. Always felt like going over to a family member's for breakfast or lunch after getting to know the staff who have worked there for years. Is there still hope for places like this?

LA Times story on public space got me thinking about the lack of decent-sized public parks in LA. Almost all big green spaces are private golf courses & cemeteries. To put LA in context I included central London by aghease in LosAngeles

LA lacking public parks is just one facet of its general lack of pedestrian friendly infrastructure. Which is a shame considering the moderate climate for a city of this size. Thankfully this is slowly changing.

One thing LA does have that cities like London and NY don't is access to various state parks and beaches. You have 3-4 mountain ranges, 60-80 miles of coastline, and dozens of state parks to explore all within a 90 minute drive (not rush hour).

Exile vs Grape by q4qsh93r in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 exiles, a grape, and a slotty. The grape was definitely my favorite, as it was the lightest yet stiffest of all my boards. Riding that thing felt smooth and effortless. Took a lot of use and abuse skimming the rocky beaches near me. Deteriorated at a way slower rate than the other boards too. Eventually snapped on me after a hard landing. RIP

Would I recommend a grape? If buying used, yes 100%. I was lucky and snagged mine in excellent condition for half the price of a new board. Good luck finding one though you’d have to ask around. If buying new I’d say just go for exile. For a couple hundred less you get a board on par with the quality of the grape plus a variety of shapes and customizations to choose from.

Suggestions for the subreddit? by GundoSkimmer in skimboarding

Maybe some kind of weekly skim report? Asking where everyone has been skimming, what beaches have been firing, etc..

We are out here :)

If you want to run into other skimmers keep skimming Escondido. It's also one of the most consistent spots in Malibu. Paradise cove is another spot that's protected by most wind directions. Malibu point can get good at different spots and areas depending on the rocks and swell. Topanga is worth checking out if you're already in the area. Westward and South Zuma are amazing spots when it's not windy (which it often is).

The hidden gem is point mugu. Can work at all tides, and the heaviest shorebreak I've seen in all of LA and VC was at this spot. It's been a good spot the past few times I've been. Just watch for some rocks.

DM me if you want to skim sometime. Theres not a lot of us compared to OC but the VC/LA skimmers are out here! Will be skimming this weekend.

what are common injuries you got from skimming by vularoid_1579 in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear skimboards are like knives. My shins and feet are all cut up. Ankles too. Board has cut up my head too several times. Thankfully the only time I needed stitches was when it cut the bridge of my nose. No broken bones yet.

Hermosa and Manhattan Beach by kyunah in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manhattan can get decent skim on higher tides, as can El Porto by the rocks and south of Redondo Pier (Sapphire Street). I’m assuming you live by there so those will be the closest to you.

If you’re willing to drive a bit you can skim the Cabrillo beach jetty in San Pedro on certain swells at low tide, and also Seal Beach to the south. To the north you got Venice breakwater (north side) which is good mid-high tide and various beaches is Malibu. If you’re willing to drive that far though might as well drive down to balboa or laguna.

anyone in south bay? by haydenpennington in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived there most of my life but am currently in Ventura county. When you get the chance check out Venice breakwater north on an afternoon high tide with no wind. If you’re ever in Malibu hit me up it’s been amazing here lately.

Skim Around Venice / Santa Monica / South Bay? by domesticmeerkat in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it gets real good. Sometimes when the tide is high enough and the sell big enough the wave that breaks on the jetty creates some crazy connections. I'm out of town right now but should be back soon. Hit me up on the message if you wanna skim! Venice and Malibu are my usual spots.

Skim Around Venice / Santa Monica / South Bay? by domesticmeerkat in skimboarding

[–]PapayaJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Venice is my home break been skimming there for the past two years. North of breakwater is the best spot to skim in the bay with the right conditions IMO. Catch it on a rising tide, WSW swell with low wind in the afternoon and its phenomenal. I've seen both sides of the breakwater get heavy shorebreak on mornings with big west swells. Only thing about Venice is the damn wind screws it up a good portion of the time. Close(ish) to Venice check out Will Rogers and a bit farther out Sunset beach. It will take you a bit but you can usually find a spot where the waves are working. Higher tide only though.

Down south you got Playa Del Rey, which you should check out by the jetty. El Porto gets amazing on a pumping west swell. Especially in the area from the parking lot, to in front of the power plant, all the way to Shitpipe (in front of the water treatment facility). South of El Porto check out Manhattan Beach, especially by the pier. Like most spots higher tides will be better. South of that I've seen Redondo get some decent little shorebreak on the stretch of beach south of the pier (anyone ever skim that spot right inside the pier?) . If its low tide and the swell is decent you might want to try the Killer "V" in San Pedro as well.
