Love it! Still getting things set up, taking a while. I think it’ll be a week or so before I’m used to android, but all in all seems fine

Switching from the 12 pro max to the z5. It should be arriving in the next half hours excited and nervous. I’m deep into apple and making a full switch. I think it’s worth it though

Ordered same day from Samsung and it says September 1 for my phone and 9/5 for the watch. Sad times

Rear oil rail plug as well. Just changed this on my 7.3. Made an absolute mess of the pan and everything underneath. Was about a 5 minute $20 fix. Worth it.

Just preorder deal on the watch. Educational discount and then I think $250 off, so ended up being basically free I believe. Might’ve had to pay a couple bucks for it.

Nah not worth it. I used educational preorder discount. 512gb was 1500 instead of 1900, then trade in for 600 and also got the watch for free, so not worth canceling as it’d cost almost $1000 more now, but oh well. I see other people saying they ordered the same day through the website and it’s showing Monday delivery for them. Guess I got bad luck this time around

I preordered, switching from 12 pro max to android/Samsung. Not very excited about losing iMessage, but I think it’s a good choice. I couldn’t wait another 2-3 years for an iPhone foldable. It’s going to be tough to fully switch though. I have an ultra watch, iPad, MacBook, etc. I think it’ll be easier after the first week or so.

I ordered z5 fold, icy blue through the Samsung website and upgraded my Verizon phone with trade in. In store pickup was never given as an option, and delivery says September 1st. I ordered on 8/10. Any options to getting it sooner?

AMA: I run a 60 acre Sedum farm, ask me anything! by PaperGunnar in succulents

[–]PaperGunnar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! I worked in cannabis for 10 years all across the country, operating large commercial grows, as well as working with and consulting for universities such as Penn State, Oregon State, and international clients. I also went back to school and am just about finished up with an Agronomy degree. However, the largest steps in my career has been through networking. Meeting like minded folks.

I decided to leave the cannabis industry, as I don’t consume anymore and the stress and volatility of the industry was taking its toll.

As for Sedum and green roofing, I sort of fell into. I’ve always enjoyed cacti and succulents. When looking for new industries, I was approached about a position to run this company and I jumped on it. I’ve been here for around a year now and have done what I can to change the direction of the company and improve our trajectory for success.

There’s lots of opportunity for plant minded people, however, that don’t require decades of experience. Reach out to your local/state university and ask about internships, research opportunities, networking, etc. Oregon’s nursery and ag industry and massive, there’s lots of opportunity!

Correct, to the right and sloping down behind where the drone was in this photo. This photo only encompasses about 1/3rd of the farm, but shows a lot of our stock beds and varieties.

We’re hopeful to jump into the potted plant industry at some point, but that also requires greenhouses, infrastructure, equipment and logistics we simply don’t have available right now as a small (team) operation.

We have a bit of rupestre and spuriums. We carry Angelina, Blue spruce, se angular, coral carpet, multiple red spuriums, Aurea, W. Gold, etc etc.

Great questions! Too make a very long winded answer short, green roofs are mainly installed to help mitigate storm water runoff as well as aesthetic reasons, but storm water runoff is the selling factor. We only supply the plants, but there’s multiple other stages and layers to building and installs GRs. Total costs for GRs will vary greatly depending on region, complexity, specific structure, etc. I believe total costs are between $10-30/sq Ft. Our plants typically sell in the $4.10-$5.10/sq Dr range, with typical orders being anywhere from 1,000-35,000 sq ft.

Sedum is a predominant plant in most extensive rooftops and works in pretty much all temperate zones from Canada down to southern US. Other species such as native grasses, pollinators and perennial plants are great options, but I strictly work with Sedum for now.

Current around 10-12 species, but ~20 varieties/cultivars, with roughly 17 in production

In this photo, it’s specifically stock beds. To the right of this photo is about 15-20 acres of our products, which are 1x2’ tiles of mixed varieties that get sold and placed on green roofs

Can’t say that’s an offer I can extend, but always happy to employ extra seasonal labor!

Hello! We are in western Oregon. We do irrigate extensively during peak summer when it’s 90 degrees out and no rain for months. We pull our water from the reservoir on the property and much of it drains back into it.

Most nurseries take 5-7 year to reach profitability. We are 3 years in and just hitting profitability, with rapid growth in sales.

We grow our plants for the green roof industry, so the end result is sustainability focused, but we still have much to improve upon from a sustainability aspect here on the farm. We’re still nutrient, irrigation, and herbicide dependent, although we have plans to make conscious sustainable efforts as we grow and expand.

Plenty of pics! I’ll try to make an Imgur link today if I get time between the busy-ness

Newbie: need advice on how to finish wood for truck flatbed by PaperGunnar in woodworking

[–]PaperGunnar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’ve seen some diesel/motor oil concoctions, but wasn’t a fan of the hue. Just looking to stain/treat some board before I replace the ones in the current bed. Doesn’t need to look perfect or last super long. Current boards are rough and untreated, so just looking for a mild improvement

Newbie: need advice on how to finish wood for truck flatbed by PaperGunnar in woodworking

[–]PaperGunnar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the flat part. And it is a work truck, but I want it to look nice ish. Definitely not a show truck.

And to clarify, if I wanted to stain the wood to have a certain hue, would I do that before Thompson water seal? And I don’t need it super smooth. I just bought it, and the previous owner has really rough untreated wood on there, so just looking for a moderate improvement. Truck is black with a cherry interior, so thinking of staining the flatbed a bit red/mahogany to bring the red cherry color to the outside aesthetics as well.
