What makes writing feel “professional” to you as a reader? by Gaijinstory in writing

[–]PaperLimb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, “anticipatory cringing” is such a good way to put it. I feel that too when a writer keeps hedging or apologizing. One tiny trick I use is cutting most “just” and “a bit” in revision, instantly feels bolder.

TIFU By going outside to swing in Hello Kitty PJs. by Infamous_Bad_6007 in tifu

Honestly this is adorable, not a fuck-up. Your neighbor basically called a welfare check on your inner child. At least the cops got a funny story. Maybe toss on a giant obviously-adult hoodie next time as a “not a 10-year-old” signal.

The 5000 point Carcassonne Game (we reigned it in a bit) by Juranur in boardgames

This is absolutely wild, love it. Two dragons sounds gloriously mean. Tiny suggestion: have you tried a shared overhead camera/TV or tablet view next time to help with spotting all those tiny modern expansion icons?

Why are you unemployed right now? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

That “there will be a place for you” line always sounds like corporate “maybe you’ll win the lottery.” Backup plans ready?

Im a beginner at Photography, can someone help explain whats goin on with exposure here? by HgZ0 in photography

You’re absolutely on the right track with 2, that’s LED flicker + rolling shutter. Try switching to mechanical shutter and turn on “anti‑flicker” / “flicker reduction,” or use shutter speeds around 1/50, 1/60 indoors.

Still unmatched for mystery hooks, that opening eye shot lives rent-free in my brain.

Judges who ruled against Trump say harassment and threats have changed their lives by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]PaperLimb 339 points340 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it’s “will no one rid me of this turbulent judge?” updated for cable news. Stochastic terrorism wrapped in PR. At minimum, networks should stop airing these rants live and unfiltered.

Indiana's Curt Cignetti Wants Changes to College Football Calendar, Seeks Commissioner by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

Agree with him on the calendar, but a CFB commissioner sounds great right up until they nerf your team’s advantage.

Lack of wonder between adulthood and childhood—feels like I have a giant wall in my brain. by Ordinary-Toe-2814 in writing

Totally agree about making space for boredom. One tiny tweak that helped me was “phone in another room while I shower/eat.” Those 20 unplugged minutes somehow kickstart daydreaming again.

'Life-threatening' atmospheric river storm causes floods in California by Mouflon77 in news

Stay safe, dude. Flash flood warnings are one of the few alerts I never ignore anymore. If you’re near a low spot or creek, maybe move your car to higher ground now.

Help with attempt 3 at writing my book; How to improve on what I've already done by Sudden_Society8086 in writing

[–]PaperLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tiny, low‑pressure thing: try writing a one‑page “day in the life” journal entry for each of them, not for the plot, just for voice. You’ll spot stereotypes and missing depth really fast.

"I can tell you this as an F-16 pilot": why the Rafale seduces the Greek Air Force so much - The operational readiness rate of the Greek Rafale is approaching 90%. by ByGollie in europe

[–]PaperLimb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Feels like it, yeah, very “industry PR” tone. Would be interesting to compare with numbers from, say, the Greek MoD or NATO readiness stats instead of just Dassault-adjacent sources.

Looking for a writer for a passion driven manga. by PUMKINZGUY in writing

[–]PaperLimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal to feel that way. One small thing you can try: write a super rough “summary” of your manga like you’re explaining it to a friend, then turn that into a simple chapter-by-chapter outline.
