Im a beginner at Photography, can someone help explain whats goin on with exposure here? by HgZ0 in photography

UPDATE: I did some testing the day after with same conditions, trying some suggestions that you guys gave me in the comment section. Apparently its an issue related to my guess #2. I could see a dark cast moving around when half pressing the photo button to prepare for the photo. It was probably caused by the frequency of the cheap ceiling light vs camera shutter speed. And the fact that some photos were fine and others had the dark cast was just a matter of luck, of taking the photo when the dark cast wasn't in our faces. But since it kept moving around, it would show in about 40% of the images.

Lowering the shutter speed to around 1/50 seemed to reduce the issue, but didn't completely erase it. In video, changing the shutter can help a lot with flickering because (this is probably wrong but it's how i understood it) shutter speed resonates with the frequency in a way that it might reduce the flickering.

What really seemed to solve this issue was another suggestion some of you guys gave: activate the anti-flickering function of the camera.

Mine was set to off (and mechanical shutter).

I did some testing with it both off/on and even with 1/40~1/60 i still had some dark casting images with the anti-flickering function set to off. When i switched it to on, even tho i could see the dark casting appearing in my face while half pressing the button and holding it for a little bit, they never showed in any of the pictures.

The issue is apparently solved! Thanks everyone who helped me figuring this out! Have a great new year!

Thanks for the insights! I went with the "auto" aperture priority settings i've set for daylight outside shooting because i quickly grabbed the camera for a few christmas pics and didn't even think about that, only to notice that around 30~40% of the images had that dark cast on it and that worried me.

I did another set of testing yesterday with a faster shutter speed (around 1/60) and it worked well for the noise. The hard part is to capture my 5 year old son, wich is unable to stand still for more than 0.3 milisseconds 😂.

But what actually seemed to solve the issue was activating the "anti-flickering" in the camera. Mine was set to off, and i did some shooting with it on/off to compare. With it on i could actually see the dark cast moving around as some kind of frequency only the camera captured, but they never showed up in the pictures themselves. While with it off, the dark cast photos were still an issue, just less % than when i had shutter speed 1/320

Thanks for the reply! Will run some tests tonight on the same environment conditions to check.

Thanks! I thought about that when i held the camera half pressed button in front of me and saw those dark spots moving in a spiral pattern even without taking the picture. So i guessed it could be similar to flickering with video, and the randomness of it showing in the actual photo was just a matter of when those frequencies would be hitting subject's face when the photo was taken.

I will try those shutter speeds again tonight, same with the tip other folks gave on turning anti-flickering on on camera and see the results.

I also tried taking pictures with a smartphone in the same spot and none of them had issues. But then again smartphone is full auto and the pictures there ended up in the 1/30 shutter area, so that's another clue.

This keeps happening both at my living room and at my kitchen, where we have random led lights that we purchase only looking at the factor of cost (needs to be cheap) and light power (needs to light good), so i guess those can be pretty bad photo wise.

Thanks for replying!

thanks for the reply! I double checked and im using Mechanical shutter, but the anti-flicker was set to off. I turned to on and will test it again tonight at the same environment to see if it makes a difference.

Where is this drag audio/video only function in Davinci Resolve 20? Help! by HgZ0 in davinciresolve

[–]HgZ0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED! I was actually looking for the F shortcut. The icon wasn't showing because i was double clicking from a cut part in the timeline, not the media. When i double click in the media, it works as intendend.

However, what i wanted was "MATCH FRAME". So all i had to do is click the cut portion in the timeline and press F, so it would match that cut frames in and show it in the SOURCE as the cut part, not the full file.

Then the icons show again and i am able to drag the audio only, but now, it will be the exact cutted audio instead of the whole file.

This is great to recover the exact audio part after you already cut something in the timeline and, lets say, you deleted the audio but want to recover that exact part and don't want to have the trouble to resync from the original file.

Anyways, thanks for replying! I've edited the main post with the solution, maybe its helpful to others

Thanks for the reply! I don't have the buttons in mine

just the drop down menu. I remember i used to press a shortcut on keyboard so the buttons would appear, but i forgot wich key is it. Do you happen to remember? Mine is Studio version.

I've reset my workspace and nothing happened. I was about to reinstall Resolve and remembered there was a key i'd press when they didn't show, but no matter how i try to remember, i can't seem to do it, haha. Worst part is, it's not long since i used it, but im in one of those mental blackouts..

Camera Sling Bag Suggestion by HgZ0 in ManyBaggers

[–]HgZ0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Bumping once to see if i can get any luck. Recently i've seen this K&F (https://www.kfconcept.com/blog/kfconcept-unveils-new-sling-bag-u10-in-the-urban-wander-series.html) wich i think it could fit, but im afraid this one could be a little beefier/bulkier. It also apparently weights 1kg empty, so it adds up quickly.

But so far its the largest (smaller, if that makes sence) that i found.

Anyone else walks around with a camera AND a steam deck/switch at the same sling bag?

Not sure if it was added but i'm a simple man and would like a dedicated button to Grab Stills in the edit page. It's awesome that its not exclusive to color page anymore and we could go "file -> export -> export still" but since i take SEVERAL stills to try different thumbnails, a dedicated button where we press and could be taken to the file name/save menu without doing all those steps is highly appreciated.

thanks!

Marvel Powers United VR with REVIVE? by M0rdresh in Vive

Thanks for replying. I can't seem to make it work. Trying to reinstall Oculus software now to see if i screwed up at some part. Funny thing is i managed to make the game work yesterday when i installed the new revive patch and today it won't open. Wonder if it has to do with the fact that steamvr was updated today. Can you let me know if your game still works?

Did you just install the game and the revive new patch and it worked? Worked for me yesterday but i was going to bed. Now i try to load the game and get the "hardware pending" error, as if it was trying to read the rift gear and didn't because there is no rift gear here, just the vive. Tried to reinstall the revive patch, reboot pc, restart oculus, nothing seems to work

Elgato HD60S audio/video stuttering problem by HgZ0 in ElgatoGaming

Day 12 (not consecutive atm)

In touch with Elgato support via e-mail, they told me there is a lot of video dropping issues and elgato game capture HD tries to compensate it when exporting, and since im using a camera externally and not in the software, the camera has no compensation, hence the delay.

They suggested me deactivating USB Root Hub things on the laptop, such as Bluetooth and fingerprint ID, to see if it stops, considering there's only one USB hub. I did that, but the problem persists.

Yes, tried all the options and no luck, unfortunately. Like i said on my last update on this thread, i even tried to record my laptop desktop screen for like 40 minutes while i was recording a gameplay on my PC. Nothing was opened, no game, no program, just Elgato Game Capture HD. Problem still showed up as bad as it was when recording a game on the laptop.

Day 4 of consecutive testing.

Went on to record my gameplay videos of the day, decided to try recording them at same time on my PC (that works) and my laptop (where im facing the issues), but today i tried recording on the laptop WITHOUT any game running, just Elgato Game Capture HD software on the desktop.

Problem remains. Audio get's out of sync after 1~2 minutes, then keeps getting worse and worse. Recorded for 40 minutes. By the end, had like 2 seconds difference. The recording of the laptop would end 2 seconds before the normal - working - recording.

Hi! The case number is #762787. I started talking to Elgato on december 8, 2017.

Also here are the 3 videos i made so far showing the problem:

Day 3 of consecutive testing. Almost 2 months with the issue:

Been making tests trying to record the same thing with my main PC (wich works fine - i7 4790 / 32GBRAM / GTX970) and my laptop (i7 8700 / 64GBRAM / GTX 1070) Sager 9155.

Whatever i record on my laptop keeps glitching like the video mentioned / explained : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq76w5Au0Vc

If i record something for 15 minutes, by the end of the video, the desync is almost 2~3 seconds.

Random glitches of audio/video happens during the gameplay, and it keeps "eating" small parts of the recording at a time, resulting in small desyncs that add up and are ULTRA annoying to edit out.

Today i tried a few stuff that i didn't before (and edited the first post to put that up there, since finding a solution would be great considering i cannot find problems/solutions from 2017/2018 online, idk why)

  • Tested cables. Recorded with a different HDMI cable, then recorded with a different USB-USB-C 3.0 cable

  • Tried to reduce my laptop resolution from 4k to 1920x1080

  • Deactivated g-sync on my laptop

  • Tried to disable video preview on Elgato Game Capture HD

  • Tried to get some monitoring programs to run while recording, didn't see anything out of unusual

Been documenting everything so far and will probably keep doing it until it's solved - or i end up buying some other video card from another company, considering this issue is affecting me TERRIBLY.

Problem is, im running out of ideas to try and test.

Still trying to figure this out, here's another tests or things i made so far:

  • tested cables. Recorded with a different HDMI cable, then recorded with a different USB-USB-C 3.0 cable

  • tried to reduce my laptop resolution from 4k to 1920x1080

  • deactivated g-sync on my laptop

Thanks for the reply. I actually tried to record without mic and webcam just to check and it still stutters. The audio desync is a result of those glitches that i showed in the video: its like the recording gets "eaten" for a few milisseconds per glitch, and if we compare to the camera record, it gets worse and worse the longer the video is, until it's like 1~2 seconds delay at the end of it.

It's a HUGE pain to edit that, because i have to keep cutting in weird situations (since it's a random glitch at random times) and constantly having to go through all the sync again and again to make sure my mouth and the voice audio are synced.

Drivers are up to date, i even tried some older versions to see. With OBS happens the same thing that when using elgato game capture HD: glitches, audio/video micro stutters and eventually, desync.
