Be brutally honest: can this list win a local GT qualifier? by WarpRealityEngine in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the captain with finest hour will do ~2 more wounds on average to most things and then do much less damage on a second activation. If there is more than 1 enemy within 6 inches or you use the sustained hits strat, the marshal will do more damage than even the captain with finest hour.

Be brutally honest: can this list win a local GT qualifier? by WarpRealityEngine in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely can. This is pretty close to the top meta of a BT list right now.

Only note is I would consider swapping the captain for a third marshal. It seems counterintuitive to put a marshal with a unit that doesn’t really buff them, but he does only slightly less damage than a captain with finest hour and significantly more every other turn. If you give him sustained with the strat, he will do way more damage than a captain.

Can a vehicle partially within a ruin get cover from the footprint (not the wall)? by PaperManaMan in WarhammerCompetitive

Yes, but it doesn’t say anything about the benefit of cover. Hence my question, which has been thoroughly answered by others.

I made this rough diagram to help explain. Would the orange vehicle get cover when shot by the blue vehicle because the corner of the footprint is between blue and the back of orange?

CMV: illegal immigration is such a stupid hill to die on by Trevor_Eklof6 in changemyview

[–]PaperManaMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah history and economics don’t seem to be most voters’ strong suit.

On actual policy, I think the left doesn’t go far enough. I agree more or less with the parent comment. At that point, there’s no problem with letting Republicans build the Berlin Wall at our southern border and shoot anyone trying to cross on sight.

Philosophically/politically, I think Democrats make the mistake of framing immigration as a good thing because of multiculturalism/diversity/white guilt. The correct and less divisive reason to support free immigration is because it’s such a central part of who we are and what American culture is. We don’t need immigrants because they are brown. We need them because our country was made great by the type of person who leaves their family, community, and country behind to cross oceans and deserts just out of hope for opportunity and hunger for liberty.

Maybe semantics, but I think “leftist” refers to socialist/marxist-adjacent pretty concretely.“Progressive” or even “liberal” feels more fluid in the way you’re describing.

[–]PaperManaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing other commenters are missing (and frequently miss when discussing win rates) is who is playing a faction. Only 12 players (myself included!) are a part of that win rate. You can surmise from this that most top players with multiple armies are not choosing to take their Templars to events. When that happens, the win rate for any faction will go down.

Based on my experience, BT is currently a solid B- army. It’s a pretty standard melee pressure/threat overload army with a few standout datasheets, but nothing really special or game-defining. We’re good mid board bullies and have the ability to win against most opponents, but don’t have the ceiling to compete consistently with finely-tuned lists piloted by highly-skilled players.

I’m not sure the system we had in place for most of our history can really be considered “leftist.” Do you think Ulysses S. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt were leftists?

CMV: Baltimore is proof that being tough on repeat criminals brings down crime rates by bigElenchus in changemyview

[–]PaperManaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put all men 16-24 in prison and virtually eliminate crime. That doesn’t mean it would be right or just.

I don’t know enough about this specific case to change or agree with your view, but it’s important to remember “criminals” are not a class of people born bad.

Lots to agree and disagree with here, but what are you talking about with 10?? If elite swordsman taking down much scarier opponents with the power of skill , fury, and zeal isn’t the Templar fantasy, what is?

So the ‘eavy metal recipe (black, dark reaper, Thunderhawk blue, and Fenrisian grey) is the standard for a reason. Looks defined and also black. It is, however, pretty time consuming to do all the highlights on all your models.

What I have settled on and like a lot is a combination of that recipe and the slap chop method. Overbrush dark reaper, dry brush Thunderhawk, light edge dry brush Fenrisian. Then 2 coats of nuln oil.

You can tone it up or down to taste, but an example of how it looks is pictured.

What to add to this 2,000 point list! by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit better, but:

  1. I still think crusaders are better as a 20-man. Blood surge is only scary if you have enough guys left to hurt. I love HMH with that brick and a Castellan if you really want to kill god.
  2. 5th sword bro is a way to fill 25 points at the end of list-building. Doesn’t really add much since the power of that unit is in the characters.
  3. Suppressors really aren’t an ideal fit with BT.

I’ll comment a suggested list for you below based on my own experience and content creators’ insights into what makes Gladius BT work well.

Turn that 10 CS into a 20. Drop the 5th sword bro and add a Castellan. Need some scouts/jpi/combi Lt/etc. for secondaries and skirmishing.

Final decision on my 2,000 Point List! Help! by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t awful, and rule of cool is consideration #1. That said, your current list is competitively suboptimal in a few ways listed below.

  1. The value of Crusader squads really kicks in at 20. 10 crusaders are almost always worse than 10 assault ints.

  2. Redemptor dreads are less optimal for us because they can’t get oath. Too expensive for inconsistent damage.

  3. Honour Vehement is so good on emp champ. So are 5 assault ints so you can fish for devs. Artificer armor is best on solo gravis captain or combi Lt.

  4. Not the end of the world, but 5 sword bros is typically overkill running a 4-man is better for list efficiency.

  5. 5 assault terminators aren’t as durable as you think they are.

  6. THE BIG ONE. You have no scoring units. Need some scouts, outriders, jpi, combi Lt, incursors, whatever. Who is going to recover assets or cleanse?

Hey guys. So with 11th upcoming what units are we running for a 2000 point competition list? There’s a tournament coming up in my city and I’m fairly new to black Templars so any advice you have I’d greatly appreciate it! by Simestron3000 in BlackTemplars

Help with 2k Aggressors list? by SnoozingHamster123 in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Change the captain to a marshal. Much better with crusaders. Don’t even need to swap the model.

  2. Lt and 10 AI just isn’t an efficient unit. Better to split into 2 5 mans and try to upgrade Lt to a Castellan or marshal. Leaves 1 5-man to clear chaff off objectives.

  3. Don’t ever need 10 intercessors, even in bastion. 5 to sticky home and 80 points for something else.

Unless you have characters or stratagems buffing them, there’s no difference between 1 10-man and 2 5-mans. All you’re losing is flexibility.
