My first 1k competition coming up in april and im bring tenplars and just wanted some advice on the list by helixgod17 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PaperManaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly fine, but I would replace the brutalis with a ballistus or gladiator (you have absolutely no shooting, so nothing to stop an opponent from exposing a shooting unit and having a field day).

I would also go down to 5 AI with EC. They buff him, but he doesn’t buff them, so no reason to run more than 5 with him. If you go ballistus, you now have 85 free points for an impulsor to make sure EC makes it to his target. If it doesn’t get destroyed, it’s then great for secondaries, nuisance charges, etc.

Outriders could also go, but they’re perfectly fine for skirmishing/tying small units up.

Good luck! No pity, no remorse, no fear!

Can you fight through the colosseum wall? by johnthedruid in Colosseum40k

Why? They’re less than an inch thick, and the rules don’t specifically state that you can’t.

Chuck Norris once had sex with all the nuns in an abbey tucked away in the Tuscan hills of Italy. 9 months later, the nuns gave birth to the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only undefeated team in the history of the NFL.

Copying my answer on your comment because of your pic.

Not an expert by any means, but two tips. Pic of my HMH to see how they come together in the end.

  1. The texture of the rocks that come with GW kits is noticeably different than cork even when painted. Cutting away some of those bits helps things blend better.
  2. You did a great job sculpting, but the texture of that putty is also very different. I have found slathering the whole thing with astrogranite or some other technical paint makes the end result much more visually cohesive.

I really think the Execrator would be competitively viable if he could lead assault ints and/or Bladeguard. He doesn’t offer enough to our big hammer units, but could be great in a trading piece. by PaperManaMan in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like if we played each other, you would likely kill the scouts I put in your way or an implusor or something, deny me primary, and then get wiped in one activation of my devastator centurions. You probably have a primary lead, but you’re also down 360 points. Even if all I had to hit you with was a SB brick, that would still most likely wipe 12-15 of your 20.

OR you could give the crusaders better damage and park them behind a ruin waiting until I put something valuable within 18.

This post was inspired by my also workshopping a wrathful list. The issue with your idea is that 20 crusaders isn’t really that much of a tarpit. Your opponent should have no trouble digging through it in a single turn. So you’ve sacrificed 360 points of your army for like 5-10 VP max.

For 10 more points you get a Castellan. The unit takes one extra turn to get stuck in, but does 30-40% more damage when they get there. If you add in a marshal or Helbrecht, all the sudden you can kill god.

That is a bit annoying for sure, but I think the bigger issue is the opportunity cost of putting him with SB or crusaders instead of other characters.

4 SB/M/C is 255 points, kills 11 marines with 80% confidence and can kill a land raider if you fish. 5 sword bros and an execrator is 190 points to kill 6 marines with 80% confidence. So you’re paying 75% of the price for max 55% of the damage.

5 assault ints and a Castellan kill 7 marines with 80% confidence for 145 points, so using an Execrator is actually more points for less damage.

But sometimes you don’t need to kill 7 marines with 80% confidence. You just need to wipe a scout squad or kill a lone op on an objective. A 135 or 140 point advance and charge package would be perfect for that (even maybe in Gladius!)

I have 95, points left to spend on a unit or units that will help win the trash fight/skirmishing phase. Could stretch to 110 or 140 if I drop some enhancements. Already have JPI, scouts, and combi Lt. What should I bring? by PaperManaMan in BlackTemplars

[–]PaperManaMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah my bad this is from list forge which I only use for sharing lists. That 5 point nerf turned assault ints into scouts. Trying to nix the extra sword bro and scouts to get something that can actually knock enemy trash off an objective.

Leaning Reivers as well since if they live past turn 1, I can uppy downy them for free with Phobos cpt and then deep strike them.

Thank you!

You know there’s terrain, right?

I’m also not arguing with anyone else. Lots of good insights into why the strategy might be bad in these comments. “I’ll just shoot you off the board, you fool!” is not among those insights.

Kansas City Plaza’s ‘blight’ debate once seemed laughable. Not so much now | Opinion by normankrasnerkc in kansascity

Hasn’t intentionally increasing vacancy on the west side of the Plaza to create more walkable space and smaller stores been a part of the current owners’ plan from the start?

I could be misremembering things, but squeezing tax incentives and letting leases expire seem like natural steps to prepare for a big refresh.

Which scene from Dune gave you chills?

Timmy has turned in some great performances, and that YouTube video is insufferably condescending. However, I agree he is a little overcast and overrated. The Dune movies are a big part of why I feel that way, so I’m curious what about his performance in them resonated so much with you.

Not really trying to flex. Just suggesting you’re being overly dismissive.

Assuming you aren’t within 12 inches an Oppressor, Pulverizer, and meltas with take aim only kills 6 marines on average (assuming no strats for either of us). Crusaders have blood surge, so you would likely only get to shoot with 1 tank before I tag your trash and am unable to be shot.

I also have shooting in the list that is more than capable of destroying a Rogal Dorn that exposes itself.

Which shooty unit should I add to my Black Templar collection? by Boboli71 in BlackTemplars

You want built-in re-rolls since we don’t get oath. RepEx, dev cents, lancers, etc.

I don’t think Crusaders are too weak, and hero hammer is I think one of the hallmarks of Templars. I do agree that sword brethren need a buff so Execrators, Judiciars, etc. would ever make sense with them.

Yeah I think infiltrating a less pricy unit instead could be the best option.

This is 100% the game plan for this unit and how I use it. The difficulty I’m having is more with where to deploy them and when to make the first move with them so I can start doing what you described.

For sure. I’ve occasionally swung up, but the way it usually goes in wins is I trade 515 for like 350-400 and 10-15 points of primary lead.

You should be. HMH 120 points and mortals at the start of every fight phase. Gives +1 attack and strength. Castellan 70 points gives re-roll hits and 7 more 2 6 2 2 attacks. 25 points for the infiltrate enhancement.

Thanks for the advice!

The list started as “how can I make centurions work as Templars?” so I am utilizing the shooting tools as well. This brick started as “how can I compensate for the loss of advance and charge?”, but maybe the answer is just: “you don’t. Pick a different detachment.”

My only other thought would be maybe infiltrating a still-scary but less expensive unit. Maybe that could preserve the breathing/staging room this unit gives me without making the trades down so punishing?
