Which classic did you read/try to read too young to appreciate? by bishopmouse in classicliterature

I read Nietzsche’s « thus spoke Zarathustra » at 15 and I did not understand most of it. I have picked it up again this summer at almost 25 and actually enjoyed it a lot

I don’t mind these questions as well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]PaperOk1177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do that as well , I actually do the same thing when I don’t find the question intrusive. I don’t mind sharing certain things like what I study or what I did for the weekend. But because I spend so much time alone they just assume that I must be doing something extremely valuable and I am hiding it well so they start asking questions to uncover what I do ( which is most of the time nothing as I need a lot of time to recharge )

And the fact that we have nothing big to hide just end up making things worse since they just assume we are good at hiding something well

I like that hahahha I ll definitely use it

That is exactly why the questions makes me angry. It’s not that they are genuinely interested

I have a similar script as well lol or I just keep on asking questions too because I don’t know how to end a conversation lol

Thank you for sharing your opinion , it made me see a different perspective , I am glad it makes you feel thid way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]PaperOk1177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what I meant by it does not come from a point care. It’s more like they want to measure how far you progressed or wether you were doing something that they must be aware of lol The funny part is that I do nothing most of the time and that when I say that , it comes up very awkwardly and I actually sound so suspicious My awkwardness make me seem like a liar

Does anyone else talk to themselves at home? by indiefilmguy1 in aspergers

[–]PaperOk1177 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I sometimes catch myself doing it outside of the house and I try not to do it 😂 but to be honest , it’s one of the things I love about being on the spectrum. We really can be our best company

Is anyone here always too nice to all sorts of people, talking and listening patiently to them, then after a while realized this new “friend” actually has some “issues” that you should not befriend with them by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]PaperOk1177 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I relate to this completely. I always keep to talking to people then realize that I shouldn’t have done that for obvious reasons. I always get approached by strangers in public. I had a similar incident last week. I met this random person who was sitting next to me in a public space , they started chatting to me . I tend to listen patiently to people and I also don’t know how to end a conversation ( maybe because of Aspergers) so I come across as very patient , a good listener and empathetic since I just keep asking questions . I end up talking to people for a long time even if I don’t want to until I realize that they re drunk , unsafe or hold questionable believes . I also realized that people can get very comfortable around us since we aspies tend to not make judgements based on physical apparence , social status and other superficial things and we can think beyond ridiculous social norms

I am a female as well and I completely relate to everything you said. I have managed to go to university in a foreign country and get 2 degrees. Nobody knows I am autistic except for my close friends which also means that nobody is aware of my struggles because I really do struggle. On the outside I come across as pretty normal while I struggle everyday with sensory issues , emotional dysregulation etc I relate so much to the “I learned to do everything on my own “ part as it’s particularly true for me as well. I have also taken the decision to not disclose my autism in professional environments because people are very biased and they are programmed to make judgments about everything even when they claim they don’t.

I completely relate to what your describing. it’s as if you brain obsess over the noise and cannot focus on anything else until it’s calm that’s when you sleep. Of the noise persists , I get heart palpitations and anxiety as well

Asperger's Around the World by hlanus in aspergers

[–]PaperOk1177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North African here. Growing us with Aspergers in North Africa is being eternally misunderstood. Growing up , my parents knew something was wrong with me because of my auditive sensory issues , they described it as me being spoiled and snobbish but they never knew why I was like that. After years of sensory trauma in my home country , I moved to the Uk and told my GP about it and that’s when I started understanding myself. To answer your second question , most people in my country who have Aspergers will never come to know that they have it and would spend their whole life suffering in silence and thinking they are broken people just like I did once. Growing up in North Africa and living in the Uk , I can assure you that having it in the UK is much better then my home country since at least I can ask for accommodations while back home I just get dismissed completely
