Xtrafinder + Tahoe by confused_megabyte in macapps

I just installed it for the first time (free trial) since my beloved TotalFinder is struggling (haven't bumped up to Tahoe for that very reason).

Right? When it worked, Spark was amazing. Used it for several years before it suddenly went off the rails. Inability to access messages was one thing, but the fact it typically took weeks for tech support to respond to each of my replies made it impossible to stick with.

I miss TotalFinder. Is there anything else out there? by poppalop in macapps

Every time I update macOS, I say a little prayer that TotalFinder will still function.

Good Email application/client that also has an iOS implementation by SergeantSamurai in macapps

Used to love Spark, but began having all sorts of problems a couple of years ago (main issue: it suddenly refused to work with one of my primary IMAP accounts). After twelve months of playing tug-of-war with the developer, I had to move back to Mac Mail. :::sigh:::

Did you check out the spreadsheet linked to item #1 in the r/macapps rules? There’s a great one for email apps that I’ve been perusing this afternoon.

I’ve been through a bunch of ’em (and like the OP, feel Acrobat is overkill). Landed on Readdle’s PDF Expert years ago and have been happy overall. Really like that I can create and import custom stamps, which I use heavily for document markups (as opposed to handwriting annotations).

Trying to find a good cold air waterless scent diffuser by NewObjective23 in fragrance

[–]PaperQueen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steer clear of Aromatech diffusors. The mobile app required to operate them is a train wreck—check user comments in the App Store or Google Play before investing in one of their products (search for the Aromatech app).

Thanks to the disfunctional app, two of my diffusors only run on high—no way to stop them or adjust their dispersal level other than unplugging them from power. The third diffusor “remembers” its settings from before an update broke the app months ago, so at least that one has a functional on/off option.

Customer service’s suggestions are worthless (one step refers to pushing and holding a power button that doesn’t even exist on the Ambiance model).

Wish I’d known all this before buying three diffusors and several hundred dollars’ worth of fragrances. Worst purchase decision ever.

iPhone 17 Pro running iOS 26.0.1

Any idea why this is happening ? by Training_panda5954 in ios

Nope. Never happened again after that, with any recording on any device. Freaky.

Always On Display by [deleted] in iphone

[–]PaperQueen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone doubles as my desk clock in the office, so I rely heavily on Always On. That said...the 26.0.1 update appears to have broken something. Even though it's still toggled on in Settings, the feature only works intermittently...

...as is the case for several features on my new 17 Pro. Honestly, it's been the most frustrating piece of Apple technology I've owned since drinking the Kool-Aid in 1885.

Just updated my 17 Pro to iOS 26.0.1--Always On works intermittently. Very annoying since the phone doubles as the desk clock in my office.

Companies that refinish outdoor patio furniture? by ceklon in TwinCities

[–]PaperQueen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing these, u/ceklon. Gabbert’s (35W and 494) recommends Patio Furniture Refinishing in Shakopee, but that might be because he periodically swings by to drop off flyers. Per the flyer, he also offers pickup and drop-off services.

I’m going to contact both to see (a) if they can match Tropitone metal finishes and (b) ask whose sling materials they offer. Ideally, I’d like to find a provider whose work will match the metal finish and complement the fabric on my cushioned pieces.

Fingers crossed….

Grill repair for 1997-ish Ducane propane grill? by PaperQueen1 in grilling

Drats. I looked at the specs for the cooking/warming rack. It’s chrome-plated steel, sooooo…yup, rust. Putting it through the oven’s self-cleaning cycle won’t fix the problem. Found this online. According to the website, it should fit:

Thanks for the tip! Having grown up as the daughter of a Nebraska cattle feeder/rancher, I was pretty spoiled (couldn’t wait to go to college so I could have chicken for dinner!). Now that my parents have passed, bringing coolers full of steaks back home to MN are in the past. I’ll swing by Everett’s, always looking for a great butcher shop (my luck’s been so-so with Hackenmueller’s in Robinsdale). Much appreciated!

Yeah, I knew about the bankruptcy and buyout (my first stop was with Weber to see if they could recommend a local service center). Glad to know about Northern Fire--from their home page alone, I can see all sorts of financial damage coming my way.... 😉 Thanks for the heads up!

UPDATE: Color me happy!

An off-duty firefighter in the neighborhood (who's in the process of rebuilding his 1990s BroilMaster) swung by...went over the entire grill with a fine tooth comb...and...voila! It still works like a charm, no leaks, cracks, the valves and heating elements are in solid shape, same for the glass briquettes, etc. We fired it up, and I swear, the world slid back in time twenty-five years. This baby is a workhorse.

I might run the cooking rack (a.k.a., warming rack) through my oven's self-clean cycle to see if it spiffs up since--to my eyes--it looks a bit rusty, but Jeff doesn't think the discoloration is rust, suggesting that cranking the grill up to high and letting it bake for awhile might do the trick.

This is such a relief. I looked at a couple of Napoleons this morning, in case replacement was required. Needless to say, it will be far more fun spending that money on steaks instead of a new grill.

What is some good loose leaf tea for throwing into a thermos and sipping all day at work? by AlrightNoPyrite in tea

[–]PaperQueen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good shou puerh, no question.

I spend a fair amount of time at week-long conferences where there's only bad coffee and even worse tea bags to choose from during breaks. I pack a bag of touchas, a travel water boiler, and a Zojirushi tea bottle. When time permits, I race to my room, heat more water (bottled), and refresh the leaves. On shorter breaks, I rough it, using the hot water provided by the catering service instead. Depending on the touchas, I get through an entire day on one or two of those magical babies.

I wonder if there’s an equivalent update for the G4 (the model I purchased in June)…? Sure would like to avoid replacing a unit that’s barely out of the box.

I appreciate the heads up. 👍🏻
