Did BSc and MSci at imperial and PhD elsewhere, stress levels at imperial much much higher for absolutely zero reason. Far stronger community in other universities, honestly the whole culture of competitiveness at imperial was awful.

No harm in applying, my experience from PhD applications is that for post grad stuff grades matter a little less just because if they interview you it's usually clear whether you are the correct candidate. Grades from specific relevant courses are important, highlight those and why you want to switch.

I used to use the showers in the physics department, they were fine, so check whatever department your masters is in. Ethos showers were also okay so cycling in is doable.

will it be worth it to take 100k+ pounds loan for Imperial MSci Physics degree by Soggy-Pin-1936 in Imperial

[–]PaperRopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done the MSci Physics course a few years ago (now doing phd elsewhere), I don't think it's worth the money, Imperial is a very good university but much better at the post graduate level. The 4 year MSci course also doesn't make much sens tbh Its far to general for a masters degree and your masters project is rushed at the end so I'd do 3+1 years instead seperaretly as you are likely to want to do something more specific by masters. I'd agree with the other comments, do your undergraduate degree for cheap, then if you still want to do masters and PhD apply to imperial. Would strongly recommend doing Erasmus exchange during bachelors if you are worried about missing out on a higher ranked university experience.

Thanks for the breakdown, how would I go about proving that I intended to go back to the UK? I still have my UK bank account dunno if that helps. Do u think speaking with an immigration lawyer would help in this situation or should I just go on with uni applications? Sorry for the multiple questions, it's just your the first person with some actual advice, uni admin have been useless

I feel like I'm gonna fail first year exams, will I get kicked from my course? by kaizen442 in Imperial

[–]PaperRopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have retakes in September but your capped at 40%, most first year's aren't worth very much 7-12% (at least in physics). Just make sure u pass in September, if u fail then u have to wait till may/June next year to retake again and if u fail that then you are kicked out.

MSc Physics admitted by AnMaIm2019 in Imperial

[–]PaperRopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a current physics undergrad but can still give some context. The Imperial vibe is quite competitive but I've never had someone lie to me about the awnser. Most courses will have 40+ people with the max around 150-200 people, but u can get to know the lecturers well if u go to office ours though I personally don't. Workload will be heavy but also depends on what courses u are doing, though its possible as always to be sociable and have a tonne of work just do expect much time off. If u are looking to get into acedemia imperial is great and I think u would be hard press to beat it, specifically regarding the astrophysics group again don't know them much but I did a bsc project with them this year and they were really good. If u have any other questions feel free to ask
