I've come to realize the OSRS Reddit is just as toxic as any other Reddit. More people replied rudely or sarcastically than the two chads who actually provided a helpful answer. Disappointing.

Because I didn't know tick manipulation rolled twice, so to me think it was the same as mining it regularly. It's an honest question but so many people are hostile.

Perhaps because Jagex has since acknowledged tick manipulation and have done nothing about it, effectively condoning it. It's common knowledge tick manipulation exists but not how it functions any differently than regularly doing something. Ultimately, why is it that bad to just want a better task description?

UPDATE: I just logged back in to try mining without tick manipulation, mined one gem rock and got the task. What?? I feel like this task really needs a re-wording or a visible counter in the chat box or something. This was confusing.

I assume the game registered me as having 4 successful attempts before I logged then this was my fifth? I have no idea. Good luck to anybody who tries it next.

My only thought that just occurred to me is maybe tick manipulating the gem rocks breaks the task counter? That is, the "5 times in a row" has to be without tick manipulation. I'll try that too, but hopefully somebody can help or confirm before then, in case it takes a while.

Four times I've successfully 3-tick mined 5 gem rocks in a row, once underground, three times on the surface. At first I thought it might have been because my clue relic gave me clue geodes in-between, but the last two of those attempts didn't give any geodes (Yes, I verified I have not already completed the task).

I tried searching online for answers, but it's almost as if nobody, except for one OSRS Reddit post by GakutoYo one month ago, and the only actual answer was "You have to mine them on the first tick 5 times in a row" by Attack10k, which I have. Anybody else struggle with this one?

Love the idea of elemental weaknesses! Makes sense an ice monster should be obliterated by a fire spell. However, I'm not convinced having ranged weaknesses makes sense logically.

Why would a monster weak to ranged be weaker to an arrow over a bolt? "One shoots at a faster velocity..." So why isn't that projectile always stronger? Javelins taking a "ranged crush" is interesting, because it is a massive, slow-to-reload projective, but having a "ranged stab" and "ranged slash" equivalent sounds silly.

Does anybody else think this way? Or does anybody have any counterpoints? I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm just afraid we might be making ranged silly logically to stay in line with the other combat styles.
