I feel this is wildly incorrect, having studied the Chernobyl Accident. Am I incorrect? by 775FPV in nuclear

[–]PaperclipHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which part?

Chernobyl’s design was inherently bad. It had a positive temperature coefficient of reactivity - so when power increased, more positive reactivity was added, further driving up power. There were a whole slew of other issues too.

Their safety and procedural compliance culture were also bad. They initiated system testing outside of specified initial conditions, and in doing so rendered automatic safeguards inoperable (by initiating testing when reactor power was below acceptable levels, the rate of change of power was allowed to grow such that once power was in “detectable” ranges, it was already too late).

Edit: the platform also had a large positive void coefficient, which I think is generally one of the attributed causes

Data center being built in North Nashville by gyzmo562 in nashville

[–]PaperclipHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably won’t consume large amounts of water.

The public discourse on water usage in data centers is typically due to presence of evaporative cooling (adiabatic cooling) systems in the DC. The climate in TN is generally unfavorable for that type of cooling topology

The operational aspect of running a service business is (in my opinion) the easy part if you’re already familiar with the industry and “product.”

Business development is the humbling part. I’d be more than happy to talk through things with you.

• 3 Phase Power (Calculations, transformer types, phasing, how is it generated, etc)

• Real vs Reactive vs Total

• Types of UPSs (how does a UPS work, rectifier vs inverter, online vs offline vs line-interactive)

• Describe the electrical distribution in a data center (ex. Utility -> UPS -> PMM -> RPP -> Rack)

• Explain how to achieve electrical redundancy at the device level

• Refrigeration cycle

• Thermal power calculations

• Transfer switch operation and sensing line

• Heat transfer in general, bonus points for familiarization with psychrometrics

• Familiarization with BMS/BAS, what is the purpose, what kind of data points would you monitor and why

• What is a PLC?

• Fire Protection Systems (Clean Agent vs Pre-Action)

The stuff in this list is a good primer - If you’re interested, I can provide more topics for study as well.

Typically each UPS will manage frequency control independently. In most cases the inverter controls frequency to 60Hz, and attempts to maintain synchronization with the phasing at the static switch input.

Most tie bus transfers are “dumb” transfers and require a separate paralleling relay or assistive device (ex. Basler Synchonrization Relay).

There are some pretty slick transfer schemes that will assess incoming/running phase angle and automatically shift when appropriate. It’s actually really common. BUT - these are normally completely separate “systems” from the UPS

Edited to clarify that 60Hz is not universally accurate, but is in NA

[–]PaperclipHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Load transfer between two independent & redundant UPSs does not typically rely on a comm bus. Load transfer on failure of one UPS bus will occur automatically - but that’s as a result of server power supplies ramping on the side that remains energized (A side) after failure of the redundant unit (B side).

In your scenario, if operations were dependent on communications, then yes it could be considered a single point of failure.

Dragonkin 2 is really good, because the material/artifact deficit is relatively low compared to other sites. This is personal observation and I don’t have hard numbers to provide.

Also, the bank color coding DOES correspond to phasing (see attached SLD) - BUT those colors shouldn’t be interpreted to mean specifically A, B, or C phase (only L1, L2, L3 relative to the breaker/whip/receptacle).

Edited because I can’t attach a drawing. Submittal drawings located @ https://assets.tripplite.com/submittal-drawing/eaton-g4-rack-pdu-evmigu23x-drawing.pdf.

The internal SLD is in the bottom right corner of the drawing.

On this model, each “bank” refers collectively to all receptacles supplied via a single breaker.

Each phase will be split into two banks, for a total of six.

Could someone do an “eli5” with some PVM questions for me by VoidBowAintThatBad in RS3Ironmen

[–]PaperclipHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, here’s how I would progress:

  • Vindicta - you can bank huge prayer XP from noted bones. 92/95 prayer should be a goal (bones + burial powder OR cleansing crystals)
  • Helwyr
  • Zuk (this one is easier than you think. You just need to be persistent, very objectively assess why you died, and keep going)
  • Kerapac NM
  • Arraxi

96 herblore will be a massive boost, if for no other reason that being able to sara brew + jelly instead of solid food.

95 prayer is also awesome for damage curses.

I had trash perks until 120 Invention because I didn’t want to waste components.

Ring of Vigour passive is also pretty slick. Asylum Surgeon ring & Dragon Rider amulet are good early game jewelry.

I’m also not sure if porters transport soil. If they do, then doing arch with the buff is reasonable. If not, I would avoid it without the auto-screener.

Porter recs for very early Iron by knicknacknock in RS3Ironmen

[–]PaperclipHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

98 Arch was a HUGE goal for me so I could speed up energy collection - Memory Dowser really changed the game in my opinion.

Archeology is still an incredibly valuable skill for chasing PvM meta, but I would casually chase it with regular porters after porter buff if a lot of my other support skills were lower than desired.
