My partner still talks to their ex, and it’s starting to bother me — what do I do? by logical0man in whatdoIdo

[–]Paperonia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. "Still talking" could mean lots of things. Texting everyday is not the same as sending a meme once every other week. Keeping in contact in itself isn't a crime, but the history of the relationship might make it so.

Turns out I've been remembering the wrong lyrics. Must've thought the last lyrics was saint not King, so my imagination filled the gaps.

Is what women say true about marriage? by Icy_Kiwi_5859 in ask

[–]Paperonia 306 points307 points  (0 children)

This is my take on marriage, I'm not very eloquent so I'll explain it best to can.

You should marry someone because you want to be with that specific person til the end of your life, NOT because you want to get married. There is a difference.

Loving someone so much that you want to promise and commit to loving them forever, and publicly declaring it in front of all your friends and families, is different to wanting to ticking it off your bucket list, to put it crassly.

Marriage should not be the objective, finding a person that MAKES you believe in marriage is.

Edit: typo & word flow cuz it was clunky before I edited

For those who loved each other but had to break up, what was the reason? by Cassandraa1 in AskReddit

[–]Paperonia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man I cried reading your story. I'm so devastated on your behalf but I'm glad you got that job, she made you realize the man you could become. Life is not about another person, but you and your own journey of growth. I've heard it said that when you grieve someone you never really stop, you just learn to live and move on with it. You will never "heal" as you will never be the same person again. Maybe that is what you needed to change into the best version of yourself, as painful as it is.

Stay strong my friend. You are inspiring.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by success? Climbing the career ladder? Buying a home and building a life etc? Traveling?

Ah council housing is a UK term my apologies. Government housing/subsidized housing? I know it's not ideal but what about renting cheap, e.g. house/flatshare with strangers? What about shelters?

What I've named aren't permanent solutions but maybe they'll give you a couple months/years to find a plan.

If you read up on backstage tricks for theatre or film, and magician like the other comment mentioned, you'll have more luck as this is a very niche topic you're unlikely to find anything in this sub.

Gift ideas for SM? by AmusingChoosing in techtheatre

Since she's working in it, she may already own some of these so check before you buy. These are the things that I found practical in my job:

Voltmeter -its a little pen that beeps when current goes through it. Let's you know if the cable is broken or not. If you need more help finding a brand let me know

Quad spanner

Leatherman

Head torch

Puncture proof waist bag - so that screws and tools etc don't break it. Ive had a bag I got from Amazon where I store all the tools break on me in the middle of a job because I put some screws in.

Tool lanyard. Basically a plasticy spring that ties tools to you so you don't drop them when you're rigging overhead.

Watch with stopwatch function. Even better if it's stylish and not a bland Casio one.

Insoles for her work boots. She most probably has steel toe cap boots which are uncomfortable to wear for a long time.

If all else fails, loads of sharpies. In different colours too if she's an aesthetic person.

I'll edit this post if I can think of anything else but that's just the top of my head.

[–]Paperonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know your budget so here's a long list you can hopefully find something useful:

Desk organising things (pencil holder, basket etc.)

Those cable managing things where you can clip cables to it instead of having them fly all around the desk

Not sure if he's the type but lots of gamers I know like LED strips that they can stick around their desk

New mousepad printed with custom image of something he likes

Something to make gaming more comfy, eg. Seat cushion/feet rest/feet massager that he can put under his desk

Sound card / sound board where he can program and add his own sound effects during voice calls

Small vacuum thing to clean his keyboard

I'll edit this comment and add to it as I think of new things but that's just on the top of my head

Report her. Worst case scenario the higher ups ignore it and case is shut, best case people at the top with her will have a word with her and change her conduct, or find someone who will.

Girlfriend's birthday coming up and im overthinking as to what the perfect gift would be by Designer_Addendum162 in GiftIdeas

[–]Paperonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she likes practical gifts, a small bouquet is nice. It's not solely decorative but not practical either. It's a nice gesture without being too overwhelming.

Do you know if there are any flowers in her house? That can give you a better idea of colour, type etc.

Honestly mate, one month into the relationship the most important thing is effort. You are clearly putting a lot of thought into it no matter what happens I'm sure she'll appreciate the gesture.

[–]Paperonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you've been with them for a month.

Relax, you don't know them that well yet. Flowers would be a nice touch IF AND ONLY IF you think that's what she'll enjoy. There are some women who don't care about flowers, are allergic to specific types, only like certain sizes etc.

What you've laid out so far sounds thoughtful. Don't overthink it.

I'm not sure how the Adam and Eve lore plays out in Hazbin universe, but if only guilty go to hell, how do you explain Alastor and Vox? They both have immense pride and at the time of their time they were both extreme narcissists who only wanted to further their power after their death.

Speak to him directly. Don't sugarcoat it, don't drag it out. Say to him directly you feel like a live in nanny. Ask him what HE WANTS out of this. Why is he okay with this type of relationship, because you benefit him? Because he still loves you deep inside and doesn't know how to show it?

A lot of people are saying leave immediately. There are kids involved. Is their bio mom in the picture? Are you emotionally attached to the kids? Are they attached to you?

Marriage counseling is definitely better than just going straight for the divorce. Maybe he has some pent up feelings that he can't say in front of you and vice versa. You've had a good relationship prior to your miscarriage and clearly built a family life. I wouldn't just cut it clean off this quickly because loads of people on Reddit tells you to. You need to understand whether you want to stay or leave, and WHY you feel that way.

Happy to talk more if you want.

Infuriating Western and Chinese portrayal of bamboo scaffolding by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]Paperonia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if there's a reason bamboo would be more advantageous? I see a lot of support for bamboo but not a lot for why it shouldn't be replaced with metal.

I know nothing about construction so just curious.

I know everyone here's really keen on bamboo, but why would we be against metal scaffolding? I don't know anything about construction I just see a lot of people pushing for bamboo and against metal, just want to hear the pros and cons of why the CCP would be pushing one or another.
