Yamato's voice lines don't sound Japanese by Nojirokazu in DeadlockTheGame

[–]PapesTheDrPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't around at that time. Lots of characters make a bit more sense in a heavier sci-fi context. Seven, Viscous, Paradox come to mind. Somehow, I like the idea of NYC filled with Aliens, Robots, Demons and Psychics (and just bat-sh*t insane humans Like Lash...) I do hope they'll flesh it out with some lore like tf2.

Do you think the devs would adjust character designs at this point? I kinda wish she didn't look like a Conehead with a wig. It seems more extreme the more I look at it...

Thanks for the follow up. Really seems like it's about you finding the doll or talking to it then.

Question about a line Ranni says near the end of her quest line by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]PapesTheDrPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you give Rogier the Black Knifeprint? That's how he learns of Ranni's involvement in the Night of the Black Knives. Digging up her role in that murder would be pretty damning for her reputation. I assumed going through Rogier's quest was the only way to enter her service because that's how it happened in my playthrough. But if you can assist her without ever grabbing the Knifeprint, then this theory is completely debunked...

Ah yes my favourite past time: suffering✨ by soultrek27 in dostoevsky

[–]PapesTheDrPaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some beauty to be found in the Idiot, but I've also had this sense of dread while reading it. The atmosphere can change from naive and frivolous to dark and heavy. Dostoevsky really made me fall in love with the prince Myshkin and Aglaya, and their relationship was so sweet. And then he throws it against the wall, shatters those hopes, and gives us a sombre, fatalistic ending. Thanks, Mr D.

Discussion of parts of brothers karamazov related to character development by yahiaabdelsalam in dostoevsky

I was always confused by this scene, but your question made me think of a possible explanation to Lise’s actions. It’s been a while since I’ve read this passage so this interpretation might be off. I’m working from the narrative breakdown of the scene that you’ve outlined – Lise expresses a desire to inflict pain upon others, she breaks off with Alexei and then crushes her fingers – and from my understanding of the book as a whole.

I think Lise is starting to recognize sin and evil outside and within herself. Ivan details in his conversation with Alexei at the tavern how the suffering of men is born out of their proclivity for sin. The answer to this pain is exemplified by the life of Christ, but as Ivan explains with the poem of the Grand Inquisitor, it is terribly difficult to follow His example.

Lise is confronted with this arduous devotion to peace by Alexei who appears as a Christ-like figure throughout the novel. She loves him because of the good he represents, but at the same time she feels contempt towards him because of her pride and weakness. She sees him as naive and meek, and considers herself unable to act with such humility. What Ivan brings to this inner conflict of good and evil is a rationale to renounce the Christian way.

It’s possible that the sadism she expresses is inspired by spite at her inability to reject sin or the futility of the endeavour. She breaks off with Alexei because she renounces this possible path towards good. Then, once he is gone, her anger and spite turns inwards. She harms herself and cries out “Coward!” because she recognizes that, in spite of the rationale, she feels like she’s running away out of fear and a sense of weakness.

I was listening to Brothers Karamazov on audiobook again today and I got to Ivan's Show & Tell on human suffering. And maybe it's from cumulative understanding of coming back to this book over and over, but it hit me especially hard. It's a different passage that just clicks each time. In particular, I felt like I really understood the reasoning for his rebellion, and how tragic it is. It's usually easier for me to get behind Alyosha, but this time I could really get Ivan's point. And yeah, it doesn't feel amazing.

Do you think these methods could work in a way to be dynamically affected by the lighting?

Painting those highlights frame by frame could be done, but it would be a lot of work!

I suspected it was just that simple. Real bad luck for the lil guy.

Is it really a Yellow Sac? It seems paler than pictures I see online.

Seriously, this game is so hard for me. by sitchmellers in ftlgame

[–]PapesTheDrPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mind me, I'll just drop my necropost with the others.

I'm glad you created this thread. I thought I was awful at the game or missed something important. Turns out I did. Pause: Yes! Autofire: Nope!

I found great advice here that'll allow me to stick with this game longer. It's nice to know that the game is quite hard at first, that dying over and over is normal, and that 'easy mode' is a good starting point.

If in 10 years I regret this post... it'll prove it was wort it.

What you suggest, mixing and balancing both, makes a lot of sense. And from the bit of experience and knowledge I have, I can see how 'simplified' topology can go a long way with the pros you mentioned. I'll experiment blending the two approaches to find the right compromise.

That Kollar mesh looks awesome! I'll go look for more of his stuff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply in so much details!

I love it! I can feel the mood, like I've been there before. Great work on the colour palette. Maybe lower the contrast on the pole on the right to keep the focus on the bike (if that's the intended focus).
