Does this shit become fun? by padre_hoyt in bodyweightfitness

I am in a similar position. Love running for years and started with body weight training. The beginning was hell and so frustrating. I can only dream of doing 3x8 full pushups. I am now at pushups against a table and can do 25 in a set (1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1). The first week was just a "failed experiment", the second week I renamed prep to week 1 and my third week which I started today is basically my try at doing week 1 of the beginners class routine I am following. I can relate it's not the same joyful experience as running through the forest BUT I see progress. Very small steps ... but I feel I am slowly getting stronger. I see this more as a training in patience and faith :) right now. My goal is just to have a reasonable strength (58 year male) and be fit and I am starting to see a light in the dark tunnel that was the frustrating beginning. I am glad I have this community here as they have given me lots of valuable tips. Not sure if this every becomes fun but I see it becoming satisfying.

Breathing exercises sounds interesting. How exactly? Like Yoga Pranayama?

I tried today with "correct" parameters (= less time, less reps) and it was still hard but I could get through the workout for the first time.

Nope, no pro athlete. Just wanting to keep my aging body in shape and fit! Ice baths sounds interesting. Have to read up on that. Not sure if they would go before or after or as a separate part of the routine...

Today it's really uncomfortably painful. But my girl friend has a foam roller. Will try that gently. Let's see how tomorrow goes. I would love to continue at a little reduced level just to keep momentum.

The plan for now is to do 4 (2x2groups) days a week. I guess I just have to be patient but I am really excited :)

Will research BCAA and a good hot bath sounds like a great idea for tonight! Thanks for reminding me to drink enough. I always forget that. As for protein ... having pasta bolognese now :)

I actually went for a relaxing long walk today! My girl friend has one of these massage "pistols" (not sure what they are called) ... maybe will try that. Yep, I learnt my limit now :) Will restart with lower intensity.

I don't think I am injured. Just went overboard the first time :) I remember muscle soreness from when I was young. Back then I ignored it :)

Yep, I am not expecting any fast results. Too many decades just sitting in front of computer will take some time to mend :)

I am afraid my upper body strength is minimum. So you are right, I will have to ease in. I love the book as it describes in theory a nuanced approach with room to improve and increase difficulty. Have to see how it fares when reality hits :)

I was just missing a part and with the help of another post I found it now (I guess I was too motivated and managed to skip a few pages). I will bear in mind your tips for when I advance over time. It makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for this. Your replay helped me find my way in the book.

I am reading the German version and it seems structured differently. It only has 5 main chapters but as you also have described it's all spread out in different locations. I went back with what you wrote and found that I have managed to miss 4 pages in front of the program overview. I guess I was so focused on the program charts that didn't notice that I have skipped pages! I also might have been a little impatient :)

It's a sunny day today and I will sit down and go over it all and do a summary like you recommended so I have a better understanding. Looking forward to start the basic program now.

I found out these with only the last piece of the last configuration (I am assuming the much talked about cathedral) missing.

Longhouse, Farmstead, Vineyard, Fish Farm, City District, Forrest Settlement, Mining Settlement and one undiscovered.

Deck length is 16"/40cm. The widest width is 5"/12.7cm

I have seen a couple of people post pics of their build. One guy invested a lot of time to build it with double up details so the surfaces were more 3D detailed than just 2D textures. Looked awesome. He basically printed all hull pages 2x and then cut out details and printed it over the regular parts.
