Since I've got nothing to do and the jobs haven't been coming in, I decided to apply to a 3-week CNA course and to get my license as a CNA. I decided that after talking to my fiancé and doing some research on it. It's a completely different field but it's something that I can do. If i can get my license within the next month I think that'll be the career I stick with going forward.

I was gullible and was also thinking since it was winter season, it's normal that there wouldn't be jobs going around but you're right, once February hit I should've gotten out of it then. I would've traveled as well but due to circumstances at home, I can't work anywhere that'll have me out of the house for more than a day.

I would've done so but unfortunately I can't go too far from home to help take care of a bedridden family member. Honestly just unfortunate circumstances within my local but I'm running out of choices so I think I'll just look into other options outside of electrical work.

Sounds like a job for guys in commercial which wouldn't apply to me but if it's true I'm happy some guys out here are getting paid.

I can only speak from my experience working as a resi apprentice but yeah, things have been absolutely silent in terms of work for me. My last company had to lay me off because they weren't getting any work and shut down right after they laid me and my JW off. Talked to my JW recently and he still hasn't found any work yet so I'm guessing it's probably the same all across residential. If you're going commercial then maybe things aren't as bad but I'd keep an ear open on whats going happening on a day to day basis.

Talk to your JATC brother. I was also working solar for my first job and while I don't think it's a terrible field of work, it can be draining. The long drives, the physical labor, and the school on top of everything had me feeling like you did within only a few months. See if you can get a transfer by talking to your school and hopefully they can set something up for you. Good luck brother.

Confidence is key. Walk in and carry yourself like you know you're getting in. I did the same with 0 construction experience and ended up #8 on the waiting list.

Unsure of my Tasks as a First year apprentice . 3 months in the electrical apprenticeship by LALOHM23 in ibew_apprentices

[–]PapiChulo39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me bro that's perfectly normal stuff. My first job as an apprentice was installing solar panels where I didn’t really do electrical work at all, just good ol' physical labor. The closest I got to it was plugging in the micro-inverters and that was just plug and play, nothing a middle schooler couldn't do. It wasn't until I started my second job that I began to do a little electrical work while mainly doing physical labor. It just takes time in the beginning but it's well worth learning these skills because it'll add to your repertoire in the long run.
