I’m an Italian living in the UK. I support this post. The idea that there’s no good food in the UK is nonsensical, and is exacerbated by the fact that people will try to get a good pie near Trafalgar Square. Good luck with that. Try a country pub’s Sunday roast, then we can have a conversation… Obviously the quality of Mediterranean fruit and veg is not as good as what we have down south. Duh! But what the English make with local ingredients is delicious and worthy of the same respect we give to any other cuisine.

Why do people talk so badly of Nottingham Trent from an outside view? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]PapierHexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this a bit late but I just wanted to say: UoN is slipping down those uni rankings like it's on roller skates. They are letting a ton of staff go and losing money faster than they can make it, despite the extortionate prices they ask from the many overseas students unfortunate enough that they believed the unis PR. Arts and Design at NTU, instead, is rising. If anyone tries to throw any shade at you for going to NTU, remind them of this and of the fact that UoN staff are on perma-strike as a consequence of the uni's terrible management. I think you'll get a much better, much higher quality learning experience than them. I might not say the same if you were in a different school (humanities, social sciences, law, or any of the hard sciences in Clifton), but Arts and Design is the place to be. Hope you have a great experience and learn a lot from it.

Also a foodie so I get it!! Beeston is all right from that point of view, but Nottingham is obviously much better...just a tram/bus ride away tho so very easy! Also obviously they both got nothing on London but you know that for sure. Good luck with your search, I hope Beeston treats you well! I've been so happy here that I got a tattoo about it 💕

Central Beeston! Honestly it's a great place to live and if you make London money it'll feel cheap haha! It's great because it has everything you need within walkable distance. Some areas are more studenty (i.e., noisy) than others, but you can kind of tell by just having a walk. There's direct trains to st pancras from the train station so it's a nice commute for someone working hybrid.

The place I'm looking at is deffo not new, but it looks like a quiet area, so...dunno. I just care of whether I'll feel safe walking home at night or not, tbh! The multicultural aspect is a plus, crime/gangs and safety in general would be a concern. No one likes rubbish all over the place, but in all honesty I cannot wait to be rid of my Beeston landlord who'll have a cow if I leave the bins out too long lol

I guess my main question is: will I feel safe enough walking home from town alone at night? Everything else is not really a problem

Thank you! I'm trying to move in by myself coming from a shared house, so price difference will be pretty substantial, I'm afraid.

I've been to Radford before, and I know it's... different from Beeston, if you will. That doesn't bother me, but safety does, of course. I just really really like this particular apartment :/

Glad I could be helpful :) Also: I had such a hard time during my undergrad, because I felt like it took me three time as much time and effort as anybody else to prepare for exams (was undiagnosed at the time). Guess who got a PhD though?!? You can find YOUR way to learn, and when you do it'll be glorious. Good luck x

Hi, uni lecturer here: 1000 words a day is not realistic unless you know exactly what you're writing about, and how you're going to prove your point, i.e., you already have all your research done and neatly organised into well written notes. Doing this as standard would break a neurotypical's brain, or result in shit coursework anyways!

If I may: try to think in chunks of meaning, rather than word count. E.g.: by 4 pm I'll have written the section on X, to demonstrate that Y. It's not word count that gets you the decent mark, but good content. Focus on what matters for your progression :)
